Cadets and Pioneers Skate to 3-3 Draw

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team skated to a 3-3 overtime draw with Sacred Heart at home on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights got things rolling at the close of the first period.
- Colin Bilek kept the puck in the offensive zone and John Laurito backhanded it from the boards to Mason Krueger who was charging the goal.
- Krueger tipped the puck over Brett Magnus' glove for the score.
- Halfway into the second Army struck again just after the power play expired.
- Matt Berkovitz muscled the puck off the boards to John Zimmerman.
- Zimmerman fired the puck to the slot connecting with Tipper Higgins for the score.
- With 8:05 on the clock, the Pioneers scored on the power play to make it a one-goal game.
- Eric Butte kept Army's momentum going with a score 3:07 into the third stanza.
- Dalton MacAfee and Alex Wilkinson cleared the puck from the defensive zone as Eric Butte carried it up the boards.
- Butte's initial shot was saved, but he jammed home the rebound for his second of the year.
- The Pioneers kept things tight with an even strength goal at the 14:09 mark.
- They followed that up with a power play, 6-on-4 goal with one-minute remaining in regulation to force extra time.
- The Black Knights had a few opportunities in overtime but could not get a puck across the goal line.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Prior to the game, the 39th Chief of Staff of the United States Army, General Mark A. Milley, participated in a ceremonial puck drop.
- Milley played hockey at Princeton where he was also a member of the ROTC program.
- Army had nine players contributing to its nine points tonight for a balanced team effort.
- Krueger netted his fifth of the year and seventh in his career.
- It was the sophomore's 12th point of the season and 17th overall.
- Higgins posted goal four of 2018-19 which marked his 11th.
- Butte notched his second this season and fifth point.
- MacAfee registered his fifth point in five games tonight.
- He leads the team with 29 points and boasts 24 helpers.
- Wilkinson added his 19th assist this year which was his 47th career helper.
- Also in the assist column was Bilek, Zimmerman, Berkovitz and Laurito.
- Matt Penta turned aside 20 shots for the tie in his fourth-straight start in goal.

- The Black Knights host Bentley next weekend for the regular season finale. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m.
