Army Tops AIC 2-1 in First Leg of Weekend Series

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team wowed its home crowd Friday night with a 2-1 victory over American International.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
- Army scored on an exceptional play 2:47 into the second period.Â
- The Black Knights were on the kill, but shortly after the Yellow Jackets were on a delayed penalty which the Cadets turned into their favor.Â
- Kozlowski rushed to the bench to provide Army an extra attacker as Alex Wilkinson tipped the puck up the boards to Dominic Franco who found Bilek streaking up the ice. Bilek netted his first-career short handed goal to put the Black Knights up 1-0.Â
- The Cadets scored again with 1:07 into the third off the faceoff.Â
- Franco won the draw getting the puck back to Brett Abdelnour who scored glove-side high on Zackarias Skog.Â
- The Yellow Jackets answered back three minutes later with an even-strength score of their own.Â
- The puck was bobbling on the goal line in-and-out of Trevin Kozlowski's glove, but Justin Cole was able to connect with it and tap it into the back of the net to cut the Black Knights' lead to 2-1. Â
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights posted another clean sheet on the penalty kill tonight.Â
- Army denied four extra-man opportunities and has not allowed a power play score since the season opener which spans over 334:20 minutes of action.
- Kozlowski pushed aside 20 shots tonight.Â
- Bilek netted his second goal of the year and ninth in his career.Â
- The sophomore has registered 20 points over the past two seasons.Â
- Abdelnour notched his first-career goal in the game.Â
- He is the first rookie to score this season.Â
- Franco had the primary assist on both of the Cadets' goals.Â
- It was the senior's fifth multi-assist game in his career and 17th multi-point game to lead Army.Â
- Throughout his four years as a Black Knight, Franco has dished out five helpers and seven points opposite the Yellow Jackets.Â
- He leads the senior class with 76 career points.Â
- Wilkinson had assist number one this season and 51 in his career.
- The senior now boasts 65 career points.Â
