Cadets Topped by Lafayette in Road Tilt

EASTON, Pa. - The Army West Point men's soccer team dropped a Patriot League road tilt to Lafayette, 5-0, on Wednesday night.
The Black Knights (2-5-1, 0-3-0 Patriot League) were outshot by the Leopards (7-2-1, 3-0-0), 12-7 in the contest, but held the edge in corners, 5-3.
Lafayette went into the half with a 1-0 advantage and used four second-half goals to pull away and secure the league win.

The Black Knights will close out a two-game road stretch on Saturday when they take on Lehigh at 6 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Leopards were on a breakaway in the 40th minute before Chris Gomez lofted a cross into the box with his left foot. Hale Lombard leaped in the air and headed it into the top left corner of the net to put Lafayette up, 1-0.
- In the 48th minute, Lafayette was once again on the attack and Yiannis Panayides buried a shot to the right of a diving Justin Stoll off the feed from James Gibson.
- The Lafayette lead was extended to three in the 62nd minute after Gibson found Martin Ssessanga inside the box for the goal.
- Just over two minutes later, Gomez sent a corner into the box and Adam Branson tapped the ball into the net for the team's fourth goal of the night.
- The Leopards tacked on one final score in the 86th minute to grab a 5-0 advantage.
