Boston-Bound Cadets Set for Critical League Contest

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's lacrosse team will make its first appearance on CBS Sports Network this season with a contest at Boston U.
The Patriot League clash will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Boston, Mass.

- The Black Knights and Terriers will meet for the 4th time in the all-time series Saturday.
- Army holds a 4-0 edge over Boston since the series began in 2014.
- The Black Knights have outscored the Terriers 51-29 through the first four contests.
- Last season it was a one-point game between the two squads, but the Cadets overcame a late deficit to defeat Boston.
- Conor Glancy paced Army with four points on an even two goals and two assists in the game. He set the team up with the tying goal in the fourth quarter.

- The Terriers enter the weekend at 5-6 overall and 1-4 in Patriot League contests.
- Boston's league victory came against Lafayette two weeks ago (12-8).
- The Terriers dropped a close one to Lehigh last weekend.
- After a four-goal run to start the second half, the Terriers took the lead. The teams traded goals be-fore the game was knotted at 6-6.
- Lehigh scored with 38 seconds remaining to take the game.
- Chris Gray is the top scorer for the Terriers with 4.45 points per game. He boasts 30 assists and 49 total points.
- The team's leading goal scorer is James Burr with 27.
- Sean Christman is the primary faceoff specialist and owns a .504 efficiency on draws.
- Joe McSorley leads the league in saves per game at 11.36.
- He has an 11.01 goals against average and a .517 save percentage.
MAKING RANK
- The Cadets lead the nation in scoring defense with just 7.00 goals allowed per game.
- This has allowed Army to rank 13th nationally in scoring margin (2.89).
- Army's defensive core is responsible for 9.44 caused turnovers per game to rank sixth in college lacrosse.
- Johnny Surdick leads the squad with 16 caused turnovers and sits tied for 11th in the country in caused turnovers per game at 2.00.
- AJ Barretto's 6.92 goals against average is good for second in college lacrosse.
- Army has allowed seven or less goals in all of its wins this season.
- The Black Knights have also held their opponents to under five goals on three occasions.
- Offensively, Army has reached double-digit goals on four occasions, three in victories.
MILESTONE TRACKER
- Nate Jones is now just one point away from the 100 club. He has posted three points in each of the last two games for Army.
- Once broken, the junior will join 32 others who have accomplished this feat in Army's 101-year history.
- The 2018 senior class currently has 37 wins. If the Cadets capture four more they tie the record at 41. This was set by the Class of 1985 and tied by last year's Class of 2017.
- Three Black Knights reached the 100-career groundball mark last Saturday. Jon LaMonica, Surdick and Barretto eclipsed the milestone in the mix.
STREAKS
- Jones is the lone player to notch at least one goal in every game played this season.
- Glancy has tallied a point in every appearance this season.
AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
- April marks Autism Awareness month and it will be the second year in a row that Army will don the helmet decal in honor of the cause.
- They decided to add the logo on the back of the helmet after Ashton Guidi of Goshen, N.Y., sent Coach Alberici a handwritten letter asking the team "stand up for the little guy" last season.
- This year, Ashton wrote a letter to the rest of the league inviting them to help spread awareness as well.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- The Army West Point men's lacrosse team is receiving votes this week in the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll.
- The Black Knights are now 5-4 on the year and are 2-3 in the Patriot League.
CLASS OF 2018
- The senior class boasts 37 wins in their careers in an Army uniform and are three off of a program record.
- The group accounts for 68 points, 129 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers through the first eight games of the season.
- Army's seniors have produced half of the offensive points so far.
LAST TIME OUT
- After coming out to a hot 3-0 start, the #15/20 Army West Point men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-7 decision to #18/RV Bucknell.
- Jeremy Angle had a career day with two goals
- David Symmes also added a pair of goals in the game.
- Jones led the team with three points on a goal and two assists.
- LaMonica led both sides with six groundballs and two caused turnovers.
ARMY LEADERS
- Jones leads the Black Knights offensively with 25 points. He tops the team with 17 goals and is followed by Glancy (14) and Symmes (13).
- John Ragno boasts a .575 faceoff efficiency and is tied for fourth on the team in ground balls with 21.
- LaMonica leads the squad with 44 groundballs and averages 4.89 per game, while Surdick has 31.
- Barretto has made 70 saves. He averages 6.92 goals against and has a .547 save percentage.
NATIONAL AUDIENCE
- The Black Knights will play on CBS Sports Network for the next three regular season contests.
- Next week, the greatest rivalry in college lacrosse, Army-Navy, takes center stage at Michie Stadium with a noon faceoff on April 14.
- The final regular season game for the Black Knights on CBS Sports Network will be the last Patriot League matchup of the season at Loyola at 7 p.m. on April 20.
- The semifinal and championship rounds of the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Championship will be televised by CBS Sports Network for the 10th-consecutive season.
- The semifinal round is set for Friday, April 27, with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, April 29. All three games will be hosted by the tournament's top overall seed.
