Army Welcomes Pioneers for Regular Season Finale

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point hockey team hosts Sacred Heart this weekend for its final regular season home games of 2017-18. Saturday night's game is sold out, but tickets remain for Friday night.

Prior to Saturday night's game, the Black Knights will honor their 11 seniors - Conor Andrle, Blake Box, Cole Bruns, James Callan, Dan Curran, Nick Curtin, Nick DeCenzo, Brendan McGuire, Tyler Pham, Mike Preston and Joe Shecter - in front of a sold out crown at Tate Rink. The senior class boasts 55 wins and has amassed 111 goals, 220 assists for 334 points. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. on both nights.

ARMY (13-13-6, 10-10-6 Atlantic Hockey)
- Army has captured 26 points so far this season with 10 league wins and six ties. The Black Knights currently sit in sixth place in AHA standings.
- It is the second straight season that the Cadets have double-digit league wins.
- Michael Wilson leads the squad with 26 points on 17 goals and nine assists. He is the only player in double-digits for goals.
- He is also first on the roster in power play goals (9) and is tops in game-winning goals with five.
- Dalton MacAfee leads the team with 17 assists this year and is followed by Dominic Franco (17), Pham (14) and Wilkinson (14).

- The Black Knights and Pioneers have skated to a pair of draws this season in high scoring affairs.
- The first contest was at Sacred Heart which ended in a 5-5 tie.
- The second was at the Nassau Collisium, in which the teams finished in overtime, 3-3.
- Vito Bavaro paces the team with 15 goals and 12 assists.
- Marc Johnstone leads rookies in the league with 26 points on 10 goals and 16 assists.
- On the power play, it's Johnstone and Jason Cotton leading the way with four goals apiece.
- In net, Brett Magnus is 9-9-2 with a .900 save percentage and a 3.13 goals against average.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Black Knights participated in the opening of Bentley Arena last weekend and picked up a 5-1 win Friday night.
- Army was the first team to win in the brand new rink.
- Alex Wilkinson scored two goals and added an assist in the effort. It was the sophomore's first multi-goal game of his career.
- On the weekend, Wilkinson finished with four points, while Andrle tallied two goals and an assist and Pham added a goal and a pair of helpers.
- Bruns made 54 saves on the weekend and allowed just four goals. The Black Knights made it to double-digits in league wins for the second straight season and are now 10-10-6 in league contests.
POST NIGHT
- The senior class participated in a draft style Post Night last week. Army's 11 seniors were able to strategically decide where they will serve their first duty assignment after graduation and further officer training.
- Six of the hockey seniors will stick together after commissioning as Conor Andrle, Blake Box, Bruns, Nick DeCenzo, Brendan McGuire and Nick Curtain selected Fort Carson, Colorado.
- Jimmy Callan will be headed to Fort Hood, Texas, as Mike Preston will also go to the Lone Star State at Fort Bliss.
- Joe Shecter sets his sights on Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Dan Curran to Fort Riley, Kansas, and Tyler Pham to Fort Rucker, Alabama.
MILESTONE TRACKER
- As the regular season winds down, Black Knights accomplished or are nearing milestones.
- In last Saturday's game, Taylor Maruya skated in his 100th career game. To do that as a junior is quite an accomplishment.
- Andrle and Pham are looking to eclipse the 100-career point marks by the time they have to hang up their Army sweaters.
- Andrle and Pham have so far amassed 94 and 95 points, respectively.
CLASS OF 2018
- Army will honor its 11 seniors prior to the game on Saturday night.
- The Black Knights boast 55 wins throughout their careers.

AHA POST SEASON
- The Army hockey team continues to set its sights on the Jack Riley Memorial Trophy.

- In all, four points on the weekend are critical as the Cadets currently sit in sixth.
- The top-five teams earn first-round byes in the playoffs, while the top-four gain hosting duties for the quarter finals.
