Cadets Fall in Mary Nutter Classic Game to UAB

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Army West Point softball team fell to UAB, 9-1, in a Mary Nutter Classic contest on Monday afternoon.

With the loss, Army dropped to 2-8 on the season, while the Blazers improved to 3-7.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

Three different Cadets recorded a base hit.
Madison Cole, Ally Snelling and Amelia Trotter each tallied a hit for the second straight outing.
Cole now has five hits in her last two games combined.
Kristen McPeek scored Army's lone run of the afternoon.
She now leads the team in runs scored with eight after crossing the plate three times during the Cadet's California trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UAB jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and later made it a five-run game in the third after compiling four runs on five hits.
In the top of the fourth, Emily Ballesteros reached on a Blazer fielding error to lead off the inning. After advancing to second on a Snelling ground out to the right side, she made her way to third on a passed ball. However, UAB worked out of the jam by getting the ensuing batter to foul out.
The Blazers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to seven, 7-0.
In the sixth, McPeek drew a base on balls to begin the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Cole stepped into the box and ripped an RBI single to center to put Army on the board.
That was the Black Knights' last chance though as UAB plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game and secure the win.
