Army Wins 50 Free on Day Two

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team had a solid showing on the second day of the Patriot League Championships, winning one event and breaking a plebe record.

Through two days, Navy still leads the pack with 338.5 points, with Lehigh (203), Army (192.5), Boston U. (140) and Bucknell (120.5) rounding out the top five, while Loyola (119.5), Colgate (85), American (75), Holy Cross (68) and Lafayette (54) trailing.

ARMY NOTABLES

Sabrina Mortell was the first Army swimmer in the water and she swam to a sixth-place finish in the 500 free at 4:53.81.
Whitney Chang broke a plebe record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.31.
In the 50 free, it was Bailey Smith who topped the competition after she hit the wall at 23.08. That win came right after Madison Berg (23.53) and Nicole Parry (23.61) took the top-two spots in the B-Final.
On the 1-meter board, Serica Hallstead came from behind to take second with a score of 267.55. Heather Yoshii placed eighth with her score of 227.30.
In the final event of the night, the group of Cecelia Croman, Kara Wineinger, Whitney Chang and Bailey Smith finished third at 3:41.97.

"We had a really good night," head coach Mickey Wender said. "Both the men and women fought hard and we had some great performances. I'm so proud of Bailey for winning the 50 free. She's come a long way and put it all together tonight."
