Army to Christen New Bentley Arena

WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the third time in five seasons, the Army West Point hockey team will be part of the opening ceremonies for a new rink. The Black Knights will take on Bentley this weekend for a two-game series in the Falcons' brand new rink - Bentley Arena.

Army and Bentley will face off for the second time in 2018 after meeting back in early January. The Black Knights came away with three points off a Friday night tie and a Saturday night shutout win. The opening ceremonies for the rink will begin Friday night prior to the 7:05 p.m. puck drop.

- Army has captured 24 points so far this season with nine league wins and six ties. The Black Knights currently sit in sixth place in AHA standings.
- Michael Wilson leads the squad with 26 points on 17 goals and nine assists. He is the only player in double-digits for goals.
- He is also first on the roster in power play goals (9) and is tops in game-winning goals with five.
- Dalton MacAfee leads the team with 17 assists this year and is followed by Dominic Franco (16), Tyler Pham (12) and Wilkinson (12).

- After splitting with Air Force last weekend at the JAR, Bentley enters the series with 21 points and an 8-12-5 mark in Atlantic Hockey contests.
- Drew Callin leads the Falcons with 26 points on six goals and 20 assists. He ranks sixth in assists per game at 0.65.
- Kyle Schmidt is the team's top goal scorer with 12. Eight of those goals have come on the power play.
- Bentley's power play ranks third in the AHA, while the Black Knights' penalty kill is at the top of the league standings.
- Aidan Pelino is Bentley's primary goaltender with a 3.13 goals against average and has a .901 save percentage.
- He authors an 8-8-2 record in net. Another offensive threat for the Falcons is Luke Santerno who is tied for first in the AHA in rookie scoring (0.83).
LAST TIME OUT
- Army earned a big win on Saturday night against Canisius on the road.
- The Black Knights started the game strong with a power play goal five minutes into the contest.
- Army maintained its lead for the remainder of the game and fought off a 6-on-5 when the Griffs pulled their goalie with two minutes to go.
- Wilson scored the Cadets' two power play goals of the evening and Trevor Fidler added in a shorthanded tally.
- Army's penalty kill did not allow a power play on the night as Canisius went 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
- Cole Bruns made 17 saves in net, while Zach Evancho recorded four blocks in the win.
POST NIGHT
- The senior class participated in a draft style Post Night last week. Army's 11 seniors were able to strategically decide where they will serve their first duty assignment after graduation and further officer training.
- Six of the hockey seniors will stick together after commissioning as Conor Andrle, Blake Box, Bruns, Nick DeCenzo, Brendan McGuire and Nick Curtain selected Fort Carson, Colorado.
- Jimmy Callan will be headed to Fort Hood, Texas, as Mike Preston will also go to the Lone Star State at Fort Bliss.
- Joe Shecter sets his sights on Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Dan Curran to Fort Riley, Kansas, and Tyler Pham to Fort Rucker, Alabama.
OPENING CEREMONIES
- After Friday's game, the Army hockey team will have opened three new rinks in the last five seasons, including two in back-to-back years.
- The Black Knights helped Penn State debut the Pegula Ice Arena in October 2013 and aided in the opening of Colgate's Class of 1965 Arena in the fall of 2016.
- Bentley Arena will be the newest rink on Army's list of openings.
