Black Knights Fall to Navy in CSFL Championship

HILLBURN, N.Y. – The Army West Point sprint football team fell in the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Championship game 24-10 to Navy on Saturday evening at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
The Black Knights close out the 2018 campaign with a 6-1 record as their 13-game winning streak was halted.
Navy took an early 14-7 lead in the first quarter before hitting a 37-yard field goal as time expired to take a 10-point lead into the break.
Senior wide receiver Clayton Carter boasted a team-high seven receptions and 114 yards, while second-year Tom Williamson hauled in five passes for 65 yards. Senior quarterback Keegan West finished the night with 271 yards on 26 completions.
Defensively, senior James Scroggins tallied a game-high 13 tackles. Sophomore Nate Hagg caused two of the Mids' three turnovers in the game with a fumble recovery and an interception. Senior Dillon Bliss added an interception, while fellow firstie Zach Lechthaler forced a fumble in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Mids took a 7-0 lead on first possession after starting from the Army 15 following a blocked punt.
- Army responded on the following drive by marching 73 yards in seven plays. West capped the drive with a seven-yard scamper.
- Navy recaptured the lead after a 12-yard pass from Brayden Chimiel to Jared Wiltshire.
- The Mids took a double-digit lead into halftime after a 37-yard field goal from Jared Swenson as time expired.
- The Black Knights brought it back to a one-score game after a 24-yard field goal by Seppi Ortman with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter.
- Navy scored an insurance touchdown with 13:13 left in the contest with Wiltshire's second receiving touchdown of the evening.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights met Navy twice in the same season for the first time since 2011.
- Army saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end.
- West threw for at least 250 yards for the fifth time in 2018.
