Army Marches Past Raiders in Patriot League Tilt

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team powered its way past Colgate, 2-0, in a Patriot League match in Malek Stadium at Clinton Field on Friday night.
The Black Knights picked up their first win in league play and now hold a 7-3 overall mark and 1-1 Patriot League record. With the loss, the Raiders fell to 3-7 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.
Army's defense put on a strong showing in the win, holding Colgate to just five shots. After the Raiders placed a shot on goal in the 12th minute, they were held without another shot for 68 minutes of play.

The Army West Point men's soccer team honored Kevin J. Smith, a goalkeeper for the Black Knights from 1997-99 who was killed in combat in December of 2005, during halftime of tonight's game.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Sophomore Alex Grave de Peralta netted his first career goal for the Black Knights.
- Fellow sophomore Rex Epps tallied an assist in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.
- It was the fifth time in his career that Epps scored in two consecutive games.
- Army extended its streak of double-digit shots in a game to 17.
- The Black Knights posted their fifth shutout victory of the season.
- The Cadets are 5-0 this year when scoring two or more goals in a game.
- For the second straight game, sophomore Tyler Mitchiner tallied an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 11th minute, Shaban Abousaud sent a through ball to the right side to Epps, who placed the ball into the box to set up Grave de Peralta for his first collegiate score.
- In the early stages of the second half, the Black Knights added an insurance goal once Mitchiner hit a through ball over to Epps and he sent it past the Colgate keeper for the score.
