Black Knights Begin Patriot League Play on the Road

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a successful start to the 2017 season, the Army West Point volleyball team will turn its focus to conference play as it opens on the road at Patriot League opponents Bucknell and Lafayette on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.).

ARMY (7-6, 0-0 Patriot League)
- Volleyball completed the tournament portion of its season with a 2-1 showing at Gillis Field House. For the second week in a row, Army defeated a BIG East opponent (Providence), pushed West Virginia to five sets and blanked Akron.
- Carolyn Bockrath and Haven Bethune were named to the All-Tournament squad for their performances.
- Bockrath was also selected as the AWPAA and Patriot League Athlete of the Week. She averaged 5.45 points per set and led the team with a .424 hitting percentage and 0.82 blocks per set. Bethune averaged 7.64 assists per set to control Army's offense.
- The Black Knights lead the league in service aces per set (1.65), are second in the league in hitting percentage (.256) and are third in assists per set (12.96), kills per set (13.67) and opponent kills (11.80).

BUCKNELL (6-6, 0-0 Patriot League)
- Friday will be the 50th time that Army and Bucknell meet on the volleyball court. The first meeting between the two squads dates back to 1988 with Army holding the all-time series lead, 35-14.
- The Bison and Black Knights have one similar opponent so far this season in Providence. Army blanked the Friars (3-0) last weekend, but Bucknell dropped a 3-1 decision to them the weekend before.
- Sophie Bullard (3.12) and Mimi Richards (2.49) lead the squad in kills per set, while Brooke Stark boasts 16 aces on the season.
- Richards leads the Patriot League in blocks per set with 1.47.

LAFAYETTE (2-10, 0-0 Patriot League)
- Saturday will be the 55th meeting all-time between Army and Lafayette with the Black Knights boasting a 50-4 advantage.
- The Leopards opened their season with a 3-0 sweep over Saint Peter's. They are also coming off a 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson last Saturday.
- Sonia Musso is second in the league in service aces per set (0.36) just behind Ana Oglivie of Army who averages 0.45.
- Julia Howard ranks sixth in assists per set with an average of 6.15.
