Second Half Surge Pushes Lehigh Past Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a tight first half, the Army West Point women's lacrosse team fell to Lehigh 15-8 Saturday evening after a second half surge by the Mountain Hawks.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights were fueled by Samantha Stewart and Manuela Cortes' two-goal performances.
- Amy Johnston, Maddie Miller, Rachel Hornick and Rilee Scott were also in the goal column today, while Erin Jollota recorded the Black Knights' solo assist.
- Kiersten Spencer led the team with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. She also added a draw control in today's efforts.
- Yet again, Johnston was a workhorse on the draw with nine controls in the game.
- Maddie Burns started in net for Army and made 11 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Hawks scored first to open the game, but two-straight by Army put the Black Knights ahead 2-1.
- Hornick scored first for the Cadets after a gutsy drive and taking a few hits along the way. She scored high from the top of the crease.
- Miller converted six minutes later with a low shot on the free position attempt.
- Lehigh then went on a 3-0 run in a 3:00 minute span. The Black Knights scored with 12:57 on the clock when Cortes faded to the right elbow and shot stick side hip to bring the game within one.
- The Mountain Hawks scored 41 seconds later for the last of the half. They bounced back in the start of the second with an 8-meter goal.
- Army answered back with an 8-meter by Stewart, but seven consecutive by Lehigh kept the Black Knights at bay 13-4.
- Johnston snapped the streak with a drive up the middle with 10:49 on the clock. The Mountain Hawks netted one more before the Cadets went on a 4-0 run to close-out the game.
- Jollota found Cortes streaking up the middle on a fast break off the draw controlled by Stewart.
- With 5:29 to go in the game, Scott picked up a ground ball in front off a rebounded shot and beat the Lehigh goalie high to cut the opposition's lead to 14-7.
- Stewart netted the final of the game after going coast-to-coast and scoring off a bounce shot before the Mountain Hawks netted the final goal with 0:01 on the clock.
TURNING POINT
- Lehigh's 7-0 run in the second half gave it the edge in the game and the momentum to pull away from the Black Knights.

- Army is back on the road next Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at American.
