WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Army West Point women's lacrosse team suffered a 12-7 setback to Patriot League foe American Saturday afternoon.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Rachel Hornick led the Black Knights with four goals and an assist for five points. Manuela Cortes added two goals, while Amy Johnston netted one and added a helper.
- Erin Jollota was impressive on the defensive side of the ball with a game-leading six ground balls. Cortes aided in the efforts with two caused turnovers alongside Kiersten Spencer who also had two.
- Cortes picked up two ground balls in the effort, while Spencer tallied four.
- Rilee Scott and Samantha Stewart were the leaders on the draw circle as they each picked up three controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 start, the Black Knights answered back when Johnston netted the opening goal for Army with the assist coming from Hornick with 16:36 on the clock.
- Hornick then scored unassisted eight minutes later to tie things up again at 2-2.
- The Black Knights claimed their first lead of the game with Cortes converted on a free position shot to push Army ahead 3-2.
- American scored four unanswered to close-out the first half with a 6-3 lead.
- The Eagles outscored the Cadets 6-4 in the final 30 minutes of play to secure their first league win of the season.
- Hornick netted back-to-back goals 39 seconds apart to bring the Cadets right back into the game. Johnston assisted on the first (25:40), while the second was unassisted (25:01).
- She scored her third in a row four minutes later to bring the score within two.
- Cortes netted the Black Knights' final goal of the game with 9:56 to go, but American finished the game with two more goals to go ahead 12-7.
TURNING POINT
- The Eagles closed-out the first half on a 4-0 run then outscored Army 6-4 in the second to take the game.
UP NEXT
- Army will play at Colgate on Wednesday at 5 p.m. before playing the final two games of the 2017 season at Michie Stadium against Boston U. (April 22) and Loyola (April 29) for senior day.
