No. 11/13 Army Continues League Play; Hosts NJIT

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 11/13 Army West Point men's lacrosse team plays a pair of games in the next four days with a visit to Lehigh on Saturday, followed by a Monday afternoon matchup at Michie Stadium against NJIT.Â
Both games are going to be live on the Patriot League Network with Saturday's game facing off at 1 p.m., while Monday's game is at 3 p.m. at West Point. The game against the Highlanders will be live on the radio in the Hudson Valley on 1260 WBNR and 1420 WLNA.Â

THE OPENING FACEOFF
• The Black Knights and Mountain Hawks meet for the 31st time in the series and first since Army eliminated Lehigh in the Patriot League quarterfinals last year.
• Army is coming off its first win of the league season with a 14-4 victory against Lafayette.Â
• The Black Knights were without senior attackman Cole Johnson last Saturday against the Leopards, but he will be back for the game at Lehigh.Â
• The Mountain Hawks enter the game with a 1-1 mark in league play after downing Colgate on the road by a 11-5 score.Â
• It is only the second all-time meeting between Army and NJIT and the Highlanders host Mercer on Saturday prior to Monday's contest.Â

JONES FILLS IN WELL
• Nate Jones stepped up on the offensive side on Saturday with the absence of Johnson as he had career highs in goals and points with six and seven, respectively.Â
• He scored four of Army's first six goals of the game in the 14-4 win.Â
• Jones leads the team in goals with 13 and is tops in the Patriot League in average goals per game in conference action with six.Â
INCHING CLOSER
• Head coach Joe Alberici is three wins away from winning his 100th game on the Army sidelines.Â
• He has won 104 career games as a head coach with 97 coming at Army and eight at SUNY Oneonta.Â
• Alberici has a connection with Lehigh's Kevin Cassese. He recruited Cassese to go to Duke and the two were on the same staff for the Blue Devils in 2005.Â

• Lehigh didn't start off the league season the way it wanted with a 14-8 loss to Holy Cross, but rebounded last week to beat Colgate on the road by a score of 11-5.Â
• The Mountain Hawks have scored 55 goals and are average 11 a game, but the defense is giving up 10.2 per contest.Â
• The faceoff game is a strength for Lehigh as rookie Conor Gaffney is leading the league with a .664 faceoff percentage and has 54 ground balls.
• Andrew Pettit is tops on the team in points with 21 on 15 goals and six assists. He has seven goals and three assists in the first two league games of the year.Â
• Goalie Chris Kiernan is back for his second year and has a 10.26 goals against average and a .489 save percentage through the first five games.
