Black Knights to Host Three Teams This Weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team returns to action after a week off to battle Yale and Furman on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. The Black Knights will play host to Loyola Marymount on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Army earned its' first two wins of the spring with a 6-1 defeat of Sacred Heart University, and a 4-2 win versus Marist College.
Versus Sacred Heart, David Mitchell won, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, in number one singles. Michael Sienko scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory out of the third singles slot; while Sienko and Grant Riechmann recorded a 6-2 doubles win in the three slot.
Against Marist, Sam Lampman and Gregory Shannon teamed up again in the top doubles slot, and won, 6-3. Riechmann won, 7-6, 1-6, 6-1, in the third singles spot, and partnered with Nikita Pereverzin to take a 6-2 victory in the second doubles position.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs come into the matchup with a 2-0 record, having record wins over William & Mary (5-2 on Jan. 20), and Buffalo (4-3 on Jan. 21) to begin the 2017 spring season. Tyler Lu won for Yale out of the first singles spot by a score of 6-2, 7-6, while Ziqi Wang recorded a victory from the second singles spot, 6-3, 6-4.
Army fell to the Bulldogs, 5-2, last season at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Sam Lampman and Michael Nguyen teamed up in the second doubles slot to give the Black Knights a win, 6-4.
SCOUTING FURMAN
The Paladins had a rocky start to the 2017 campaign, as they dropped two of their first three contests last week. Furman first traveled to Harvard University, where it fell, 6-1, and then lost to San Francisco, 4-3, also played at Harvard.
The Paladins returned home last Thursday to record their first win, a 5-2 decision versus Elon College. Adam Steryous won in the top singles position (5-7, 6-2, 7-5) and first doubles spot; teaming up with Jake Munns for the 6-2 doubles win.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
The Lions only have one match under their belt in 2017, a 7-0 loss to Pepperdine last weekend. Nick Borchenko competed in the first singles slot, while Lukas Moenter battled in the number-two single position. Moenter also teamed up with Gabriel Diaz Freire in the top doubles spot. Loyola Marymount finished the 2016 season with a 12-10 overall record, and a 5-4 mark in conference play (WCC).
