Black Knights Land 12 on All-League Teams
February 22, 2017 | Men's Swimming and Diving
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point men's swimming and diving team landed 12 on postseason all-league teams following last week's second-place finish at the Patriot League championships. The league announced the honors on Wednesday.
Individuals who win events at the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships automatically qualify for the All-League first team, while runner-up finishers are guaranteed a second-team spot. Both teams are back-filled by points, meaning a second-team member can move up to the first team if they accumulated enough points during the meet. Only individual points count.
"I am very proud of the entire program for our performance this season," head coach Mickey Wender said. "The coaches and support staff did an amazing job helping our athletes develop to their full potential- in and out of the pool. We were blessed with tremendous leadership and our team culture is very strong.
The Black Knights had a total of 12 cadet-athletes make the All-League teams with six on each squad. In all, 36 were slotted in on postseason teams
"Our athlete's commitment to the process of getting better every day is inspiring," Wender said. Our men truly believed that we could win and reverse the streak. They fought like hell and gave it a great run — winning races, setting records and scoring more swimming points than Navy."
