Army Splits Squad During Busy Weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team will split its squad for the second time in this young 2017 season.
The Black Knights will send some of their members on the road to face Providence and Bryant on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The remainder of the team will host Wagner on Friday and Vassar on Sunday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
ARMY (3-3, 0-0 PL)
• The Black Knights sport all-time records of 8-1 against Wagner, 7-2 versus Providence, 4-0 opposite Bryant and 17-5 in matches against Vassar.
• Army is coming off a weekend where it went 1-1, including its first shutout victory of the season.
• Sophomore Genevieve McCormick was one of the bright spots for the Cadets, picking up a pair of singles victories.
• Singles play has been dominated by sophomore Kirby Einck and senior co-captain Nancy Porter, who each have a team-high 10 wins.
• Einck also leads Army with 12 doubles victories.
WAGNER (6-1, 1-0 NEC)
• In the spring season, Wagner has started off with a pair of victories over Saint Peter's and Bucknell.
• Avika Sagwal leads the Seahawks with seven singles wins, including four in five matches in the top flight.
• Brenda Cumpa leads Wagner with six doubles victories, primarily paired with Carolyn Gibson. The duo is 4-0.
PROVIDENCE (3-3, 0-0 BIG EAST)
• After opening the spring with a 6-1 decision over Saint Peter's, the Friars have dropped a pair of 4-3 matches to Siena and Marist.
BRYANT (0-3, 0-0 NEC)
• Bryant opened the season on Jan. 29, with a 4-3 setback at Siena. They competed against Brandeis the following weekend on Feb. 4, but fell 4-3 again.
• Linnea Sjoberg came away with the win in the top singles flight against Siena.
• The doubles team of Ashanti Campfield and Nina Luiggi picked up a pair of wins in the second flight, taking down the Saints, 6-4, before defeating the Judges, 6-0.
VASSAR (2-0, 0-0 LL)
• The Brewers will compete for the first time this spring against Muhlenberg College on Saturday before taking on the Black Knights.
• Morgane Flournoy continues to be the key member of the team in doubles play with a record of 9-2 with four different partners.
• Tara Edwards leads the team with 15 wins throughout the fall, collecting eight in singles and seven in doubles.
