Late Tallies Push Army Past Niagara

BUFFALO, N.Y. – After trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Army West Point hockey team scored two tallies late in the game to power past Niagara, 3-1 on the road.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights improved to 6-1-0 on the road, which is the most road wins by any team in college hockey.
- It was Army's third win at Niagara in the series history.
- The Black Knights continued on to its five-game winning streak over the Purple Eagles.
- Army remains undefeated (6-0) when being outshot by its opponent. Niagara led in shots 29-17 in Friday night's contest.
- It was the first game in the 2017-18 season that the Black Knights won when their opponent scored the first goal.
- Cole Bruns made 28 saves in the game for Army.
- Trevor Fidler netted his first goal of the year and 15th of his career.
- Zach Evancho scored Army's game-winner in the third period after returning to the Black Knights' lineup from a five-game absence.
- It was the sophomore's second game winning goal of his career and ninth goal overall.
- Michael Wilson posted his first empty net goal to mark his seventh of the season.
- Conor Andrle posted a carreer-high three assists on the night, while Nick DeCenzo and Tyler Pham also aided in tonight's goals.
- Pham has now notched a point in all, but one of Army's games this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PERIOD ONE (1-0 NIAGARA)
- The Black Knights fell back 1-0 to the Purple Eagles after a power play goal 11:16 into the game.
- Niagara utilized the power play and moved the puck across the crease to set Kris Spriggs for a back door shot.
PERIOD TWO (1-1 TIE)
- Army evened the score when Fidler and Andrle came down the ice on a two-on-one five minutes into the second stanza.
- Andrle took the first shot and Fidler finished on the rebound for his first of the year to tie up the game 1-1.
PERIOD THREE (3-1 ARMY)
- Evancho scored the game winner halfway through the third period off a three-two rush.
- DeCenzo set up the play when he entered the zone and passed it to Andrle who hit Evancho in the slot.
- After a tight remainder of the period, Niagara pulled its goalie with 2:55 remaining.
- The Black Knights utilized the empty net when Wilson scored on a breakaway with assists coming from Pham and Andrle.
TURNING POINT
- The Black Knights fought off four-of-five power play opportunities by the Purple Eagles.
- Army will finish the weekend with one final game at Niagara Saturday night also at 7:05 p.m.
