Army Coasts Past Chestnut Hill on Senior Night

Prior to the game, the Black Knights honored seniors Tanner Andrews, David Baker, Ty Galyean, Quay Gilmore, Christian Hess, Curtis Jerzerick, Dakota Jones, Nathan Lopez, Jake Marchillo, Dexter Penick, Keila Pritchard, Chris Raymond and Zach Trainor, as well as managers Sydney Gonzalez, Kian Geraghty and Arran Rounds.
The Black Knights improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Griffins dropped to 1-3 on the year.
Army came out firing, jumping out to a 24-point lead in the first quarter. The Black and Gold went on to lead 45-6 at halftime with junior quarterback Keegan West going 11-for-14 for 212 yards and two scores through the air in the first 30 minutes of play. The West Point, N.Y., native also rushed for a touchdown in the first half, while the majority of the ground game came from sophomore Jake Gigliotti who gained 115 yards and scored twice on 11 first-half carries.
The Black Knights finished the day with 490 yards of total offense, 310 through the air and 180 in the ground game.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army improved to 2-0 in the all-time series against Chestnut Hill.
- The Black Knights have now outscored their opponents 85-0 in the first quarter this season.
- Army scored the most first half points in 2017 tonight with 45.
- Gigliotti ran for his first-career 100-yard rushing game, amassing 182 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.
- The Yorba Linda, Calif., native totaled 216 yards on the evening after making two catches for 34 yards.
- West threw three touchdowns for the second-straight game, going 13-for-16 for 229 yards.
- Junior quarterback Brady Miller was also efficient in the pocket, going 11-for-16 for 73 yards and a score.
- Penick posted a team-high seven catches for 54 yards, while Tom Williamson once again led the Black Knights with 85 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
- Defensively, the Cadets combined for 17 tackles for loss, including eight sacks.
- Seven different Black Knights recorded sacks in the game.
- James Scroggins forced Army's only turnover of the game on a strip sack deep in Chestnut Hill territory where he forced and recovered the fumble.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army came out firing, needing just three plays and 1:09 of game time to open the scoring. After minimal gains on the first two plays, West connected with Shannon on a 55-yard strike to give the Black Knights a 7-0 lead.
- The second drive also produced points as Davis booted a season-long 44-yard field goal to extend Army's lead to 10-0.
- West again utilized the deep ball to put points on the board for Army, this time on a 59-yard strike to Williamson.
- Gigliotti capped the scoring in the first stanza with a seven-yard rush to give Army a 24-0 advantage with 2:47 remaining.
- West contributed his third touchdown of the first half with 13:11 left in the first half, rushing five yards for the touchdown.
- The defense got in on the action as Scroggins came in to force a turnover against the Griffins with a strip sack at the Chestnut Hill 13-yard line. He also pounced on the ball to set up his offense with a short field.
- The Black Knights needed just three plays to turn that into points with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Miller to Willaimson.
- Gigliotti posted his second touchdown of the evening on a 41-yard rush with 5:43 remaining in the first half to extend Army's lead to 45 points.
- The Griffins hit a big play of their own before the intermission, hitting a 62-yard pass to get on the scoreboard. The extra point would be blocked, however, cutting the deficit to 45-6.
- The second half only yielded two scores, the first of which was a six-yard toss from West to Galyean 4:15 into the third quarter.
- Chestnut Hill scored with 26 seconds left on Domoree Hill's second touchdown of the game.
