Lachina Invited to All-American Identification Camp
January 12, 2017 | Men's Rugby
LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Junior fullback Jake Lachina of the Army West Point men's rugby team has been invited by the AIG Men's Collegiate All-Americans coaching staff to attend the Identification Camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center from Jan. 14-16.
Lachina will be one of 57 premier student-athletes to attend the camp.
"We received more than 300 nominations, which meant we had some tough calls to make, but this is a good problem to have," said head coach Gavin Hickie. "We recognize the challenge of identifying the country's top talent through the collegiate game, but we continue to cast the net wide and are encouraged to see that there are so many ambitious and talented student-athletes playing the game."
After going through four training sessions on the weekend, the coaching staff will divide the 57 ruggers into three match-day squads who will scrimmage the AIG Men's Junior All-Americans, who are also holding a developmental camp at the EATC this weekend.
"We're very proud of Jake for earning this honor and opportunity," said Army Head Coach Matt Sherman. "While Jake is physically talented, it is the hard work and effort he and his teammates have put in that has elevated his game to this level. We know he will do a great job at camp."
