Volleyball set for Weekend at Dartmouth

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After placing second last weekend in its tournament at #3 Texas, the Army West Point volleyball team returns to action in the Northeast. The Black Knights will play in the Dartmouth Tournament Friday and Saturday where they will face host Big Green, Hartford, CCSU and Niagara.

SUCCESS IN TEXAS
- The Black Knights finished 2-1 over the weekend at the American Campus Classic to place second in the tournament just behind No. 3 Texas.
- Clay led the Black Knights offensively in all three matches over the weekend and averaged 3.7 kills per set and was named the Patriot League Athlete of the Week for her efforts. She recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs opposite the nationally recognized Longhorns. Clay hit over .400 with in both wins for Army and notched a career-high .414 hitting percentage opposite the Roadrunners.
- Strong led the charge in Army's offense and block game to be named the league's Rookie of the Week. She registered a career-high .588 hitting percentage versus UTSA and hit .323 against Lipscomb with a career-high 13 kills. She led the team with seven blocks against the Bison to help aid Army's 16-2 block advantage in the contest.
- Overall, Vanessa Wesley leads the team with a .328 hitting percentage and averages 2.33 kills per set. Sydney Morriss has also helped the Black Knights offensively with 1.58 points per set and is hits .239.
- Haven Bethune has been the primary setter for the Cadets this season and has accumulated 130 assists. She averages 8.13 per set and adds 1.03 kills per set.
- In the blocking game, Wesley (0.79) and Olivia Fairfield (0.75) are atop the leaderboards for Army. Megan Bryn continues to show support as the libero and has totaled 3.57 digs per set.
TOURNAMENT MATCHUPS
- Army continues its rivalry with all four teams at this weekend's tournament. Although the two schools have been opened the longest, the Black Knights and Big Green began their series in 2004. The Cadets currently lead 3-0 and last faced Dartmouth in 2011 where they won 3-1.
- The Army-Hartford matchup dates back to 1981 and the two teams have faced each other 20 times since. The Black Knights hold a 14-6 advantage over the Hawks.
- Central Connecticut State and Army's series also dates back to 1981 and is currently tied at 7-7. The two teams last met in 2001 where the Cadets fought to tie up the series with a 3-0 victory.
- Niagara and the Black Knights have only met twice before with Army coming away with the two victories. Their first meeting was in 1998 and the most recent was in 2005 in Western, N.Y.
