Men’s Basketball Looks For Third Straight Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's basketball team tries for its third straight Patriot League victory on Wednesday night when it hosts Holy Cross. The Black Knights and Crusaders tip off on the Patriot League Network at 7 p.m.

Last time out, Army built a nine-point halftime lead it never relinquished in a 65-59 victory over American. Senior center Kevin Ferguson recorded a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds to pave the way for Army as it won its second straight game and swept the season series against American. The triumph improved the Black Knights to 6-8 in Patriot League play and 15-11 on the season.
The win gave Army 15 wins for the fourth straight year, marking the second time in Army history it has won at least 15 games in four consecutive seasons. The other group to accomplish the feat were the Army teams from 1920-24.
Holy Cross enters Wednesday's game with a 5-9 Patriot League mark following a six-point setback to Lehigh on Monday night. Holy Cross took the first meeting against Army 69-65 in Worcester, Mass.
Tanner Plomb is averaging 20.9 points per game this season which leads the Patriot League and ranks 18th in the nation. He has scored in double figures in 30 straight games dating back to last season after an 11-point effort against American. He has 16 performances of at least 20 points during the streak.

Army has played 16 games with its regular starting lineup of Dylan Cox, Kyle Wilson, Plomb, Larry Toomey and Ferguson. In those games, Army is 11-6 and averages 82.9 points per game and outscores its opponents by 4.3 points per game. Plomb averages 21.7 points per game, Wilson is scoring 17.3, Cox has a 80-37 assist-to-turnover ratio, Ferguson averages 12.7 points and 9.6 rebounds.
In the nine without its full complement of starters, Army's scoring drops to 71.4 points per game and the Black Knights are making 8.4 threes per game. The Black Knights are 4-5 in those games.
Together, Wilson and Plomb were the top scoring duo in the Patriot League last year with an average of 33.3 points per game. Wilson was first in scoring in the conference at 17.5 points per game, while Plomb ranked fourth overall with a 15.8 points per game average. Plomb (20.9) and Wilson (16.6) are the top scoring duo in the Patriot League in 2015-16.
Overall, the Black Knights have the 27th-ranked offensive tempo in the country according to Ken Pomeroy. Army's offense has an adjusted tempo of 73.3, which is an estimate of the possessions per 40 minutes a team would have against the average D-I tempo. Army's average offensive possession length is 15.1 seconds, which is 13th in the nation.
NEW VISITOR POLICY AT WEST POINT
Starting Jan. 10, people using a driver's license from the states of Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico or Washington will have to use another approved form of identification in order to enter West Point and all other military installations, due to federal guidelines. If you possess a valid Department of Defense issued identification card, this new requirement does not affect your ability to enter military installations.
Acceptable alternate forms of identification are a U.S. passport, a permanent resident card/Alien Registration Receipt Card (form 1-551), a foreign passport with a temporary I-551 stamp or visa or an employment authorization document that contains a photograph (Form I-766).
