HAMILTON, N.Y. – Ethan Kutler finished with a hat trick to help send third-seeded Colgate to a 3-2 victory over sixth-seeded Army in a Patriot League quarterfinal match on Tuesday evening at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

Army ends the year 9-8-2, while Colgate improves to 12-6-1 and will advance to the Patriot League semifinals to face second-seeded Loyola.

Freshman Rex Epps scored on a header in the 16th minute on assists from classmate Zac McGraw and junior Marcos Arroyo after Kutler opened the scoring in the 13th minute.

The Black Knights took a 2-1 advantage in the 57th minute, when senior Nick Williams scored on an assist from freshman Tyler Mitchiner. Kutler scored his second and third goals of the game on penalty kicks in the 59th and 67th minutes, respectively.

Freshman Justin Stoll made four stops in net for Army, while Ricky Brown finished with seven saves for the hosts.

Army falls to 35-26-5 all-time versus Colgate and 1-2-0 against the Raiders in the Patriot League Tournament.

Epps scored his Patriot League-leading 11th goal of the year, becoming the first Black Knight to reach 11 goals in a season since John Brence (USMA '91) scored 12 goals in 1988.
Williams found the back of the net for the sixth time in 2016 and for the second time in the Patriot League Tournament after scoring in the quarterfinals at American in 2015.
Arroyo and McGraw each added their fourth assists of the season on Epps' goal.
Mitchiner tallied his first assist of the season on the marker from Williams.
Williams finishes his career with 15 goals and five assists. His 35 career points rank 17th in team history.

KEY MOMENT

Army conceded its second penalty kick opportunity in the 67th minute with a foul just inside its own 18-yard box. Kutler tallied his second penalty of the match to give the Raiders the decisive third goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kutler scored his sixth goal of the season in the 13th minute after taking a pass from the midfield and chipping the ball over an Army defender before racing to the net to score.
Epps found the back of the net for the 11th time following a corner kick from the left corner flag. Arroyo played the corner into the 18-yard box and McGraw headed the ball over to Epps, who headed it home to tie the match in the 16th minute.
Williams gave Army a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute. Mitchiner played a nice through pass to Williams, who beat Brown on the right side.
Kutler added his second of the game in the 59th minute, converting a penalty kick after an Army foul in its own 18-yard box.
Army was whistled for a takedown in the 18-yard box for a second time in the 67th minute. Kutler again lined up at the dot and buried his second penalty, and his third goal of the evening, to give the Raiders a 3-2 advantage.
