Men's Swim and Dive Hosts Columbia and Penn
November 04, 2016 | Men's Swimming and Diving
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's swimming and diving team returns to action this Friday at 4 p.m., as it hosts Columbia and Penn in a tri-meet at Crandall Pool. Diving events will open the meet at 4 p.m., while the swimming events will begin at approximately 5 p.m.
"I'm very pleased with our progress and how team is developing in and out of the pool," said head coach Mickey Wender. "It's been a really productive few weeks. I feel good about our work ethic and way of taking care of business. "The team has taken a very professional approach to getting their job done."
"I'm very excited about the overall caliber of teams we get to race this year. To bring Columbia and Penn to West Point says a lot about where we are going as a program. They will challenge us up and down the lineup. It's a definite upgrade on our schedule. Both teams will give us all that we can handle tomorrow. It will be a great meet.
"The Columbia men are similar to Yale, in that it will be a back and forth meet. I really love the rivalry. They tend to bring out the best in us, and I anticipate a close, hard-fought meet.
"We're going to race them one event, one person, one stroke at a time. Everything is leading up to us being our best in December against Navy and in the spring at the league championships. It's a process and we have to keep getting better throughout the season. "
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
This will be the first meet for the Lions on the season. They posted a record of 4-6 (3-4 Ivy) last season and fell to Army, 153-143, at Crandall Pool in 2015. The victory marked the first time in over a decade that the Black Knights were triumphant over the Lions.
Army leads the all-time series over Columbia, 58-24.
SCOUTING PENN
This will be the first meet for the Quakers on the season. Penn posted a record of 9-2 last season, and Army leads the all-time series over Penn, 52-15.
