Golf Finishes Day 1 at Doc Gimmler

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – The Army West Point golf team wrapped up day one of the Doc Gimmler ranking tied for second at the Bethpage State Course with two golfers under par. The Black Knights carded a team score of 277-285—562.

"It was a great morning round by the team and the weather was perfect for scoring," said head coach Brian Watts. "The wind picked up in the afternoon and we struggled in a few of the holes. We will play aggressive tomorrow and hopefully get more putts to fall."

Firstie Marcus Plunkett, and cow Peter Kim lead the Black Knights with two-under scores through the first two rounds. The Cadets are tied for third with 138 strokes. Plunkett carded a consistent 69-69, while Kim totaled a 70-68.

Yearling Dean Sakata ranks tied for eighth after recording a 68-72—140 (E). Plebes Matthew Plunkett and Nick Turner made their collegiate debuts for the Cadets on the historic par-70 course. Matt Plunkett was six-over on the day with scores of 70-76—146, while Turner carded a 72-76—148 (+8).

The Black Knights will tee-off tomorrow morning for the third and final round of the tournament.
