November 20, 2015 | Women's Swimming and Diving
DAY ONE RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass. – After the first day of competition of the Terrier Invite, the Army West Point women's swimming and diving team ranks first with 253 points.
"It was a very productive first day," said head coach Mickey Wender. "I think the team responded well to the level of competition and is performing great for where we are at in the training process. We are competitive even though we aren't at a taper or shave part of our training. I was very pleased with the way the day went."
Molly Mucciarone finished first in the 50 free. She touched the wall in 23.07, which was 0.22 seconds quicker than the next-best finisher. In the 200 IM, Jess Burkett topped the Black Knights with a time of 2:06.38 to place sixth.
Sabrina Mortell and Meaghan McGovern placed fourth and fifth in the 500 free as Army's top two finishers. Mortell touched the wall in 4:54.61, while McGovern clocked a 4:59.61. Monica Sowinski was eighth in the event with a time of 5:06.62.
The Black Knights closed-out the first day of competition with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Kelly Hamilton, Kara Wineinger, Mucciarone and Sowinski clocked a 3:47.81 to place first.
The Cadets return to the pool tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the preliminary round and at 6 p.m. for the finals round of day two at the Terrier Invite.
