Women’s Swim & Dive Increases Lead at Invitational

DAY TWO RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass. – The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team increased its lead during the second day of competition at the Terrier Invite. The Black Knights remain in first place with 616 points, while the next-best team has tallied 456.5 points in the two day period.
"I am really pleased with our performance today," said head coach Mickey Wender. "The team has a sizeable lead heading into the final day tomorrow. The 800 free relay was an Academy record and a very solid performance. It exemplified the consistency in the professional work ethic the team strives for this season."
The Black Knights started day two of the Terrier Invite off strong with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Cecelia Croman, Kara Wineinger, Molly Mucciarone and Kelly Hamilton touched the wall in 1:44.61 to place first.
Jess Burkett was Army's top finisher in the 400 IM. She clocked a 4:28.02 to place fourth and was followed by Sidney Evans (4:29.10) and Meaghan McGovern (4:33.28) who placed fifth and seventh.
In the 100 fly, Mucciarone clocked her fourth first-place time of the weekend. She touched the wall in 54.91. Shannon Rogers was the Cadets' next-best finisher with a time of 56.59 to place sixth.
Monica Sowinski (1:51.24) and Sabrina Mortell (1:53.11) placed fourth and sixth in the 200 free. Jess Ambrose and Jess Fabrizio finished third and fourth in the 100 breast with times of 1:05.20 and 1:05.73. Wineinger also placed in the top-10 after clocking a 1:05.87 to be sixth.
In the 100 back, Hamilton (56.99) and Croman (57.30) touched the wall third and fourth, while Bailey Smith rounded out the top-10 with a time of 57.98.
Army then placed second in the 800 free relay with an Academy record time. Mortell, Julia Bush, Rogers and Sowinski teamed up to clock a time of 7:29.59.
The Cadets return to the pool tomorrow at 10 a.m. for final day of competition at the Terrier Invite.
