Women’s Swimming & Diving Downs Fordham

FINAL RESULTS
BRONX, N.Y. - The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team improved to 4-0 with a 160-139 victory over Fordham Friday evening. The Black Knights won seven of 16 events to continue one of their best season starts in several years.
"I am very proud of the team," said head coach Mickey Wender. "They were able to overcome some adversity and get off the bus to beat a very good Fordham team. I am pleased with where the team is right now and can't say enough about our plebe class and their ability to step up."
Army West Point swept first through third in four events including the 1000 free, 100 breast, 200 back and 500 free.
Sabrina Mortell clocked the first place time of 10:30.29 in the 1000 free. She was followed by Danielle Nuszkowski (10:33.11) and Sidney Evans (10:33.42) who were second and third, respectively.
In the 100 back, Kara Wineinger touched the wall in 1:07.11 to claim first place, while Jessica Ambrose recorded a 1:07.97 and Jess Burkett had a time of 1:08.23.
Burkett earned the top spot in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.67 and was followed closely by Cecelia Croman (2:06.77) and Bailey Smith (2:06.91).
In the 500 free, Bridget Ritter was first after clocking a 5:02.19. Mortell was second with a time of 5:02.89, while Nuszkowski placed third after recording a time of 5:02.89.
The Black Knights had a one-two finish in the 200 free with Monica Sowinski touching the wall first in 1:53.61. She was followed by Ritter who had a time of 1:54.46.
In the diving events, Jorie Mason placed third with 161.48 points with Ariana Rocha in fifth with 139.80 on the 1-meter. Rocha earned 203.40 points off the 3-meter to place third, while Mason was fourth with a score of 165.60.
Army will be back in action at the Terrier Invitational Nov. 20-22 in Boston, Mass.
