Heather Barnhill joined the Army West Point swimming and diving coaching staff as an assistant coach in November 2019.
She has been a member of the West Point Community for the past four years where she has been working to grow and develop an age group swim program.
Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Heather swam with the Sackville Swim Club in high school and at Mount Allison University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Throughout college she taught and coached age group and masters at the local YMCA and worked as an oceanfront lifeguard. While pursuing a Masters in Secondary Education at Oxford University, England, she trained with the Oxford University Swimming Club.
As a military spouse Heather has had the opportunity to continue her swim and triathlon training with a variety of coaches and master’s teams. The Barnhill family was initially assigned to West Point from 2002-04 where she was an instructor with the West Point Swim Club, now known as the Patriot Swimming Team located in Peekskill, N.Y. She additionally trained with the West Point Masters Club. While stationed in Hawai’i, she swam with University of Hawai’i Masters and Kailua Masters. She competed annually in the North Shore swim series, South Shore and Magic Island swim series, Waikiki Rough Water Swim and a variety of triathlons and duathlons on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
Heather is a Level 2 ASCA swim coach.
