Kelly Lennon enters her fifth season with Army swimming & diving after joining the program as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2021-22 season. Lennon was promoted to Associate Head Coach for the women's team in June 2024 and also serves as the women's recruiting coordinator in her role.
Since arriving at West Point, Lennon has helped the program see its greatest competitive success in decades in the pool, including 26 program records across the past three seasons. She helped guide five cadet-athletes to the 2024 Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, including Aurelie Migault who became the first female swimmer in program history to qualify for the event.Â
In 2023-24, the Black Knights boasted a program record 13 first team All-Patriot League honorees after collecting 15 gold medals at the Patriot League Championships, which featured 14 program records and two conference records. Sophomore Molly Webber was named Women’s Swimmer of the Meet and Highest Point Scorer after claiming three individual golds and two relay golds. Junior Wes Tate was also named the Highest Point Scorer on the men’s side, with both tabbing 96 points. In addition to the five OT cuts, Kohen Rankin also became the first Army swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 1987.
During her second season with the Black Knights, Lennon helped guide the men's team to its first win over Navy in over 30 seasons with a 189-111 victory at Crandall Pool over the Mids. At the conference meet later in the season, Army tabbed a program record 21 all-league honorees with both teams placing second.
Lennon came to the banks of the Hudson after pursuing a master's degree in sport administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her time with the Tar Heels, she served as a graduate assistant of athletics administration, helped with the event management staff and worked as a graduate teaching assistant.
Â
Prior to her stint in Chapel Hill, Lennon interned with the America East Conference for the 2018-19 competition year. She participated in calls with groups such as the student-athlete advisory committee advisors, business officers, senior women administrators and athletic directors. Additionally, she helped to plan and executive the America East Healthy and Safety Summit, assisted with expansion of the America East Alumni Network and helped to develop a rollout of the Better To9ether mental health initiative.
Â
Lennon brings plenty of coaching experience to West Point, having served as an assistant at Merrimack College and an age group coach at SOLO Aquatics. She was a decorated student-athlete at the University of Vermont, where she swam from 2014-18. A three-time America East All-Conference honoree, she was named the America East nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year in 2018 and earned the UVM Athletic Department's Jeff Stone Memorial Award during her senior season.
Â
In her role with the Black Knights, Lennon will primarily work with the distance freestyle swimmers. Beyond the pool deck, she will bring her experiences to help enhance the dryland program within the newly- updated Army West Point Swim & Dive Dryland/Crossfit Center. She currently resides in Highland Falls.
