Nick Vertucci joined the Army West Point men’s soccer coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in January 2018.
In just his first season with the squad, Vertucci aided the Black Knights' efforts in the Patriot League Tournament, helping the team reach the Patriot League Tournament championship match for the first time since 1996, after upsetting nationally-ranked Loyola, 1-0, in the semifinal round.
He worked with a trio of all-league and a pair of all-region performers in 2018. Vertucci also had a hand in the Black Knights' largest Army-Navy Cup victory in the seven-year history of the rivalry played at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa., after the cadets defeated Navy, 4-1.
Vertucci's wealth of goalkeeper coaching experience at the collegiate level brought him to West Point, N.Y.
He has instructed the goalkeepers at schools such as Marist and Manhattan prior to arriving on the banks of the Hudson. He coached the Red Foxes’ women’s team from Aug. 2010 through December of that same year, while also aiding the men’s team from 2010-2012.
Before joining the Marist staff, he was an assistant coach and goalkeeping coach with the Jaspers from 2008-09.
In addition, he has coached on the scholastic level at King Low Heywood Thomas School in Stamford, Conn.
On the club level, Vertucci was the goalkeeping coach at FC Westchester, a USSF Development Academy Member from 2009-13.
From 2004-09, he worked with Simon Smith, the goalkeeping coach for Newcastle United FC, providing keeper education in the U.S. and U.K. to both goalkeepers and coaches.
As a player, Vertucci played at Villanova during the 1984-85 season before transferring to Iona. He went on to graduate from Iona with a degree in Political Science. He currently holds a USSF License and a NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma.
Vertucci resides in Westchester County, NY with his wife and two children.
