Capt. Michael Chere begins his second year as the Director of Operations for the Army Men’s Soccer program in 2016.

A native of Watertown, Conn., Chere competed on the Army men’s soccer team for four years and served as a team captain as a senior before graduating with degrees in Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering in 2011.

After graduation, Chere worked as an athletic intern for the men’s soccer team before serving as a platoon leader for the 38th Engineer Company, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team and 2nd Infantry Division in Panjawai, Afghanistan and Fort Lewis, Wash., from Aug. 2012 to Sept. 2013.

He next went to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., to serve as a Company Executing Officer for the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team and the 2nd Infantry Division from Sept. 2013 to July 2014. Chere continued his service in Washington state as a military, environmental and interagency project manager in the United States Corps of Engineers in Seattle, Wash., from July 2014 to Nov. 2014 before working as an operations officer in the 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., from Nov. 2014 to July 2015.
