Tom Theodorakis
- Title:
- Sport Administrator
Tom Theodorakis was named the 31st Director of Athletics at Army West Point in February 2025, ushering in a new era of innovation and competitive excellence for Black Knights Athletics.
A transformational leader who drives innovation, competitive excellence, and sustainable growth while preserving the traditions and values that define great institutions, Theodorakis oversees one of the nation’s most distinctive Division I athletics departments, encompassing 30 varsity programs and more than 1,200 cadet-athletes. His leadership philosophy is rooted in developing exceptional people, building championship-caliber programs, and positioning organizations for long-term success.
Under Theodorakis’ leadership, Army West Point has achieved historic success both competitively and strategically. During his tenure, the Black Knights captured the Star Series presented by USAA for the first time since the 2013-14 season and secured the Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, recognizing Army as the conference’s top overall athletics program.
Theodorakis has spearheaded several transformative initiatives designed to position Army Athletics for long-term success. Most notably, he led the development of a landmark 20-year preservation partnership with USAA, one of the most comprehensive commercial agreements in service academy athletics history. The partnership provides significant direct support, strategic financing opportunities, integrated sponsorship assets, and facility enhancements benefiting all 30 varsity programs and more than 1,200 cadet-athletes, while serving as a catalyst for the future Athletic Center for Excellence.
In addition, Theodorakis has secured and expanded strategic partnerships with Nike, Learfield, and Levy, driving revenue growth, enhancing the fan experience, and creating new resources to support cadet-athletes and coaches. His leadership has focused on modernizing the business operations of Army Athletics while preserving the traditions and values that make the institution unique.
A firm believer that elite programs require elite leadership, Theodorakis has prioritized the recruitment, development, and retention of top coaching talent across the department. Recent hires and appointments have already delivered significant competitive success, including Women’s Basketball Head Coach Katie Kuester, whose program earned national recognition and whose staff was named the Spalding® Maggie Dixon NCAA Division I Rookie Coach of the Year. His leadership has focused on building a deep bench of coaches and administrators capable of sustaining championship-caliber performance across Army West Point Athletics.
Theodorakis has also directed the department’s strategic vision through the “Fruits of Victory” Strategic Plan, centered on four priorities: Competitive Excellence, Extraordinary Division I Experience, Public Engagement and Revenue Generation, and Sustainability. The plan serves as the roadmap for Army Athletics as it navigates a rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape.
Prior to being named Director of Athletics, Theodorakis served as Chief Revenue Officer at Army West Point Athletics, where he was responsible for external operations, revenue generation, strategic partnerships, marketing, communications, branding, licensing, multimedia rights, ticket sales, fan engagement, and philanthropy. In that role, he helped establish a foundation for future growth through innovative partnerships, organizational restructuring, and enhanced stakeholder engagement.
Before arriving at West Point, Theodorakis held senior leadership positions at Harvard University, the University of Arizona, UCLA, and the United States Air Force Academy. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a forward-thinking leader capable of aligning competitive success with financial sustainability and organizational excellence.
A former NCAA national champion as a member of the Syracuse University men’s lacrosse program, Theodorakis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Sport Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at the University of Arizona. In 2026, Theodorakis was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame recognized for impact on sport and leadership.
Theodorakis and his wife, Robyn, a former student-athlete and swimmer at Arizona State University, have a daughter, Olivia.
