Prior to West Point: Competed in high school basketball at Saint Bonaventure High School in Ventura, California… During his high school career, became Saint Bonaventure’s men's basketball all-time leading scorer and rebounder… Was named Ventura County Player of the Year in his junior season, the Tri-Valley League MVP twice and was a member of the All Ventura County First Team all four years of his his school career… Received numerous other honors, including received two All-State honors throughout his high school career, being named to the All-CIF First Team twice, receiving three Team MVP honors, earning Tri-Valley League First Team all four years of his career and received Saint Bonaventure’s Seraph Medal of Honor… Also played AAU basketball for the Cali Rebels… His father, Sam Benner, played football at Stanford as a defensive end from 1997-2000.
