Prior to West Point: Competed in high school basketball at Woodward Academy, located in Atlanta, Georgia… During his time at Woodward, the team earned two 5A Regional Championship titles… Cooper also received All-Region First Team honors three times in his career and All-State First Team honors once… He also earned one Gold Eagle Award (earning a 3.8 GPA or above) and two Silver Eagle awards (earning a 3.6 GPA or above) through his high school career… Also earned AAU experience at Atlanta Xpress... Off the court, Cooper served at homeless shelters and at local summer camps… His father, Deke Cooper Sr., played as a safety in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers.
