Patrick Tresey begins his fourth year on the Army West Point football staff, his second as the offensive line coach.
Prior to being promoted to an assistant coach, Tresey spent two seasons as the offensive quality control coach.
Last season Tresey helped Army capture the Commander in Chief’s Trophy title for the second-straight year and earn a bowl victory for the third year in a row following a 70-14 win over Houston. The Black Knights also finished the year with nine consecutive victories, went undefeated at home for the second year in a row and finished the year ranked 19th in the nation.
Tresey had a hand in the development of a Black Knights offensive line that blocked for the second-best rushing team in the country at 312.5 rushing yards per game. That offense also ranked first in three different categories to close out the year: third down conversion percentage (.571), fourth down conversion percentage (.861), and time of possession (38:33). Tresey coached two players to Phil Steele All-Independent Team honors in 2018 after Bryce Holland and Jaxson Deaton were both honored.
Holland, a team captain, was named to the USA Today All-Bowl Team and an All-ECAC First Team recipient as well. Also garnering recognition last year was the entire offensive line, who was selected to the Sports Illustrated All-Bowl Team. The o-line blocked for an impressive Army running game that compiled an FBS bowl game record tying 70 points in its victory over Houston on Dec. 22. That same line helped the Army offense rush for over 4,000 yards on the year, which also ranked second in the country.
In 2017, with help from Tresey, the Black Knights captured the Commander in Chief’s Trophy for the first time since 1996 and won 10 games for only the second time in academy history. Tresey was part of the offensive coaching staff that helped Army capture the rushing title, averaging 362.3 yards per game.
Tresey came to West Point after two years at Kenyon College. In 2015 he was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach and was promoted to that position after a year as the wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator.
The Lords were first in the North Coast Athletic Conference in sacks against and time of possession under Tresey as offensive coordinator. In his first year, he set up a passing game that allowed starting quarterback Jake Bates to set the Kenyon single-season record for completion percentage.
Prior to Kenyon, he spent two seasons at nearby Ashland University, where he worked with the Eagles’ offense as the tight ends coach. In those two seasons, the Eagles posted a combined 16-6 record and averaged over 35 points and 417 yards per game.
Prior to his stint at Ashland, Tresey spent a season as the offensive graduate assistant coach at UCLA. In that role he assisted in preparation of the weekly game plan, organized and coached the defensive scout team, prepared and reviewed film with the offensive staff, updated and maintained the offensive playbook, and directed tight end meetings during bowl practice.
Tresey got his start in coaching at his alma mater, College of Mount St. Joseph in 2010. He was a student coach working with the quarterbacks during his final season in school. He also earned previous coaching experience at several football camps, including The Ohio State Football Camp for four years.
During his playing days at College of Mount St. Joseph, Tresey was named to the all-conference all-academic team. He graduated in 2011 with a degree in sports management. He also obtained his master’s degrees from Ashland University in 2015.
He is married to the former Danielle D’Amico and they reside at West Point.
