Wood’s Career Day Leads Women’s Lacrosse to Victory over Fairfield

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point women's lacrosse secured its fourth win of the season with a 15-8 win over the Fairfield Stags (4-2) Wednesday evening at Michie Stadium. Army (4-2) remains undefeated in program history against Stags.

How It Happened
- The Black Knights started the scoring early after senior Allison Reilly buried a shot for her 15th goal of the season under four minutes into play.
- Army continued to build momentum, netting another goal just 51 seconds later. This time off the crosse of freshman Thais Jackson on the assist by senior Brigid Duffy.
- Senior Lily Valentini extended Army's advantage to three on a free position shot before the Stags would get on the board 50 seconds later. Valentini scored her second free position goal of the day with 7:38 on the clock to give the Black Knights a 4-1 lead.
- Fairfield struck for their second goal of the day with just over four and a half minutes left in the first quarter followed by their third goal with just 37 seconds left in the quarter to shrink the Black Knights' advantage to one.
- Starting off the second quarter, Fairfield came out aggressive, tying the game 30 seconds into action to mark three unanswered goals and bring them back in this match up.
- Offense stalled over the next seven minutes of the second frame with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. Army broke through after Reilly passed the ball from behind the net to Senior Chloe Garrett allowing her to score from just outside the crease and give the Black Knights a 5-4 lead.
- The Stags tied the score once more at five with just over three minutes left to play in the half before Army's offense claimed the game's momentum with three goals in the final 2:13 of the second quarter. Duffy struck for her 14th goal of the season before junior Sarah Wood connected for two goals of her own to give the Black Knights an 8-5 lead heading into the half.
- The aggressive offense for the Black Knights continued just over a minute into the second half. Wood picked up where she left off and resumed her scoring spree after she rushed inside the 8m and buried the shot off the assist by Duffy to earn her first career hat trick and tally three straight goals.
- Garrett picked up her second goal of the day just over a minute after the Stags opened their second-half scoring to net Army's 10th goal of the game.
- Fairfield tallied their seventh goal of the game six minutes into the third quarter followed by their eighth goal of the evening with 2:57 left in the third to cut Army's lead in half and bring the score to 10-8.
- The Black Knights responded quickly with a goal of their own 51 seconds later after Reilly netted her second of the game.
- Army set the pace of the fourth quarter scoring early and often led by midfielder Brigid Duffy who picked up her second and third goals of the game under four minutes into the quarter. Duffy's second goal was a free position goal and her third goal came off the assist by Reilly.
- After Duffy's hat trick, Reilly joined in on the fun and picked up a hat trick of her own to total three hat tricks for the Black Knights.
- In the closing minutes of this match up, the combo of Duffy and Reilly connected once again when Duffy scored her fourth goal to mark 199 career goals for the senior and give Army a 15-8 lead.
