Track and Field Comes Up Short in Star Meet
February 08, 2026 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point track and field put together strong showings, but it wasn't quite enough to top Navy, who claimed a pair of victories at the Star Meet, which is part the Army-Navy Star Series Presented by USAA.
Navy won the dual meet with 98-83 on the men's side, while claiming a 94-87 victory in the women's events. Saturday was the first and only dual for Army this indoor season. Despite coming up short in the team score, Army put together nine first place results in the men's dual and eight in the women's. Included in those top finishes were a pair of school records.
Starting on the men's side, Robby Manse shined on Saturday, posting a pair of first place finishes in the weight throw (20.53m) and shot put (17.91m). In the long jump, Carlos Posey won with a mark of 7.45m. The Black Knights swept the podium in the triple jump, as Brett Wingard (15.07m), Kwame Amoo-Otoo (14.38m) and Ethan Vess (14.36m) dominated.
On the track, Jaxon Hammond broke his own school record in the 60m, running a 6.72 to take home first. Kasen Jeitz won the 500m, while Owen Hoag finished behind him in second. Ammon Smith finished in first in the 800m with a time of 1:52.21.
The men wrapped up their dual meet with a victory in the 4x800m relay with a meet record time of 7:34.11.
Olivia Reed got Army's first top finish on the women's side, jumping 5.66m in the long jump. In the shot put, Jordan Hecht (16.33m), Sara Sahadi (14.49m) and Carly Borgelt (14.13m) took home the top three spots. Hecht's mark set a new meet record. Erin Allert had Army's last field win of the day in the triple jump, posting a mark of 12.40m.
Skye Chambers put together a school record performance of 1:12.99 to win the 500m, while freshman Sabrina Sardar finished right behind her in second. Grace Coppel was another freshman who shined, winning the 800m with a time of 2:12.66. Junior runner Mikayla Cheney won the 1,000m with a time of 2:49.91.
The women swept the relays, posting a 3:43.59 in the 4x400m and a 9:07.06 in the 4x800m.

"The women's team delivered a competitive and hard-fought performance today in a meet that remained close from start to finish. Despite securing eight wins we just couldn't close the gap. We have more depth than we have had in recent years, but we just didn't put it all together today. I thought that if we got the meet to come down to the relays, that we would be able to win. Unfortunately, we didn't do enough in the individual events to make that a reality. We were good, but not good enough. We did have several standout performances. Jordan Hecht '27 established a new meet record in the shot put, posting a mark of 16.33 meters (53' 7"). Our throwers have been a dominant force within the Patriot League in recent years, and today's competition continued that trend as they swept the top three positions in the event. On the track, Skye Chambers '27 set a new school record in the 500 meters, winning in 1:12.99 and leading a 1–2 sweep alongside Sabrina Sardar '29, who continues to excel in her plebe indoor season. This was a setback in an otherwise very competitive indoor season. I told our women that we are much better than what we showed today and that we will have the opportunity to respond in three weeks at the indoor conference championship.
Our men battled hard today, but the breaks we needed simply didn't fall our way. Despite some outstanding individual performances and several event wins, our lack of scoring depth was the difference. We finished with eight event victories to their nine, yet their strength in the 2nd and 3rd place positions ultimately tipped the meet in their favor. There were, however, some exceptional highlights worth noting. Jaxon Hammond '27 delivered the top individual performance of the day, winning the 60 meters in 6.72 seconds. In doing so, he broke his own school record and set a new meet record, separating himself decisively from the field. He continues to point upward. We also set a meet record in the men's 4x800 meter relay, anchored by a strong 1:49.70 leg from Ammon Smith '27. His fitness has been evident in recent training and pairing that relay finish with his win in the open 800 made for a standout day. In the throws, Robby Manse '26 once again demonstrated why he has been one of the Patriot League's most dominant athletes in recent years. He claimed victories in both the weight throw and the shot put, continuing his run of consistency and leadership that anchors our team. Overall, we were good today — just not quite good enough in the margins. The effort was there, the top-end performances were there, but the depth scoring didn't align in our favor.
