Men’s Basketball Falls in Road Contest Against Navy Midshipmen
January 24, 2026 | Men's Basketball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Army West Point men's basketball (8-13, 2-6) played in a road battle on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling to the Navy Midshipmen (15-6, 7-1), 56-84.
With the loss, the Black Knights have dropped their last three matchups against the Midshipmen, with their last win coming in the 2024 Star Game presented by USAA. Army earned a 69-67 win in overtime against Navy to secure the Star inside Christl Arena, where the Star Game will be played this season on Feb. 21.
Ryan Curry, in his fifth matchup in his career against the Midshipmen, led Army with 15 points while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc. Curry also added two assists and one steal.
Jaxson Bell also finished in double figures in his first career Army-Navy game, adding 14 points off the bench, shooting 50 percent from the floor while adding a team-high five rebounds.
How It Happened
Army opened the game aggressively on the defensive end, forcing a turnover on Navy's first possession as Jackson Furman jumped the passing lane for an early steal. Although the Black Knights couldn't convert right away, they answered Navy's first three-pointer with a quick response when Kevin McCarthy knocked down a triple off a Jacen Holloway assist to keep things even early.
Despite Army staying connected offensively, Navy found its rhythm from the perimeter, hitting multiple threes to build a small cushion. Each time Navy threatened to pull away, Army responded with strong interior play, including finishes by Tate Laczkowski and Holloway, with Ryan Curry orchestrating the offense and finding teammates in transition.
Midway through the half, Army's defensive pressure began to create opportunities. Evererson Jorn came off the bench and made an immediate impact, turning a steal into a jumper to trim the deficit, while the Black Knights battled on the offensive glass to extend possessions. Joshua Eli also provided a spark inside, scoring through contact to briefly pull Army even at 13–13.
As substitutions increased, Army continued to trade baskets with Navy, with Curry and Holloway attacking the paint and Bell stepping in confidently to hit a three off a steal to make it a one-point game. Then, Jorn Everson hit a three-pointer to help give Army a 19-18 lead, which proved to be the Black Knights' only lead of the game.
However, Navy capitalized on second chances and free throws to regain momentum, slowly stretching the lead despite Army's effort to stay within striking distance.
Late in the half, Curry caught fire from deep, drilling a pair of three-pointers to keep Army within single digits, while Holloway added another triple to cut the margin to nine. Even as Navy connected on late perimeter shots, Army answered with timely baskets, including Curry's tough finish in the lane and another three to maintain offensive pressure.
Navy closed the half with a late three, but Army responded once more as Holloway buried a deep shot in the final minute. Still, Navy's final make before the buzzer sent Army into halftime trailing 46–34.
Army opened the second half with energy on the defensive end, forcing early turnovers and capitalizing when Jacen Holloway buried a three off a Tate Laczkowski steal to cut into the deficit. Despite the early response, Navy regained momentum with perimeter shooting, stretching the lead as Army struggled to convert on open looks.
The Black Knights continued to battle defensively, with Jackson Furman turning a steal into a transition basket and Jaxson Bell converting at the line to keep Army within reach. However, Navy's efficiency from deep and at the free-throw line allowed the Midshipmen to slowly widen the margin.
Midway through the half, Army showed resilience as Bell knocked down a three and finished inside off an offensive rebound, but Navy answered with another shooting run that pushed the lead beyond 20. Army continued to compete on the glass and force turnovers, though missed opportunities limited any sustained comeback.
Down the stretch, Army rotated deeper into the bench while continuing to play through contact. Bell added another basket inside, and late steals by Dylan Murans and finishes at the line capped the scoring, but ultimately Army finished the game with an 84–56 road loss.
