Wrestling Returns to Action for Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Army West Point wrestling migrates south for its annual excursion to Chattanooga's Southern Scuffle to open the 2026 calendar year.
Looking to retain their crown from 2025, the Black Knights' will be in action across the two-day event January 3-4. Action will commence at 9:00 a.m. from McKenzie Arena both days.
Participants: American, Appalachian State, Army, Bellarmine, Brown, Campbell, Chattanooga, The Citadel, Clarion, Cornell, Davidson, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Little Rock, Maryland, Michigan State, Morgan State, Navy, N.C. State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State, Penn, Penn State, Presbyterian, Utah Valley, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Tournament Schedule
The tournament tentatively plans to complete the main draw quarterfinals and first round of eight consolation before concluding action on Saturday. After Sunday morning consolation rounds and semifinals, the medal matches are slated for 3:00 p.m.
2025 Rewind
Army won the 2025 Southern Scuffle team title with 132.5 team points as Gunner Filipowicz took the 165 lb title. Filipowicz dominated his 165 lb final, jumping to an 18-3 technical fall win over Duke's Aidan Wallace. The sophomore went 6-0 across the two-day event, winning each match in bonus point fashion.
Lucas Stoddard joined Filipowicz as finalist, but fell in the 285 lb title bout to Penn State's Cole Mirasola.
Nine of Army's 17 total wrestlers made the podium in Chattanooga. Richard Treanor (141 lbs) took third place with a pin in the metal match over Shannon Hanna of Campbell, and Brady Colbert (285 lbs) beat Hunter Catka of Virginia Tech 4-1 to also secure third place. Wolfgang Frable followed in fourth at 197 lbs.
Braden Basile (141 lbs) claimed a fifth-place finish with a late takedown in his ultimate bout. Dakota Morris (157 lbs) won by 15-0 technical fall in his fifth-place match. Like Basile, Dalton Harkins (174 lbs) too secured a third period takedown in the fifth-place match.
Jakob Gilfoil (184 lbs)—making his career debut—finished in eighth place.

Next Up
Army is back in action January 9 at Franklin & Marshall's Lehman Open in Lancaster, Pa. Its next dual comes at Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. on January 16.
