Baseball Travels to Holy Cross for Four-Game Series

WORCESTER, Mass. – Army West Point Baseball will look to build off momentum established from last week's doubleheader sweep over Bucknell, with four games in Worcester, Mass. against the Holy Cross Crusaders.
Currently, the series is set for the form of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday. Game 1 Friday is set for 2:30 p.m. and Game 1 Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Sunday is set aside as a potential makeup date.
All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Notes and Storylines
» Chris Barr went a combined 8-for-9 with a walk across the two games, with eight consecutive hits, tying a mark previously set by Walker Gorham in 2005.
In both games, Trey Ates was the winning pitcher. William Parker also had a three-run home run in each matchup.
» During his 8-for-9 doubleheader output vs. Bucknell March 29, Barr increased his batting average by 53 points Saturday, from .250 before the doubleheader to .303 afterwards. The junior from Sarasota, Fla. drove in four total runs across both games, including his two-out, three-run triple in the nightcap. He also crossed the plate seven times.
» Three Black Knights have tossed complete games on the mound this year, each in seven-inning games. Those complete games include Justin Lehman at Navy (March 15), Bryce Brownlee at Lehigh (March 23) and Andrew Berg vs. Navy (March 28).
» 2020 USMA graduate and baseball alum Jacob Hurtubise was named to the 2025 Cincinnati Reds opening day roster, becoming the first West Point alum to make an MLB opening day roster. He played 29 games with the club a season ago, making his debut May 13. Hurtubise is the second member of the Long Gray Line to make the big leagues, behind Chris Rowley '13, who made his debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017.
» 2024 seniors Derek Berg and Sam Ruta will begin the 2025 season on minor league rosters. Berg made his debut for Single-A Bradenton August 6, and recorded his first professional hits August 8, including an inside the park grand slam for his first pro home run. He will also begin the 2025 season with Bradenton.
Ruta was named to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals opening day roster, in the Double-A Texas League. When he plays in his first game, Ruta will have made the highest minor league debut ever by a West Point graduate.
