BRONX, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball couldn't overcome the Fordham Rams Friday afternoon, falling 9-2 on a windy day in the shadow of the New York Botanical Garden.

Trey Ates started on the mound for Army, delivering a scoreless second and third inning and a trio of strikeouts.

However, the native Texan took the loss for Army, allowing runs in the first and fourth innings.

Kevin Reavey collected two outs for the Black Knights in relief, before Walker Calvo collected a shutout fifth and sixth inning. Kaden Youmans also recorded two scoreless relief frames.

Army got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, with a Chris Barr two-out infield single to score pinch-runner John McKillop. Justin Lehman added another RBI an inning later with a double to score Addison Ainsworth.

By the Numbers

3-for-5: Barr was 3-for-5 Friday with an RBI.

2-for-4: Lehman was 2-for-4 with an RBI double, with Paul Andrzejewski also going 2-for-4.

2-for-5: Ainsworth went 2-for-5 with a double Friday.

Black Knight Notes

William Parker made his season debut in Friday's contest.

Ates made his first career start on the mound.

Batting in the second spot, Schreck batted the highest in a lineup across his Army career.

Calvo made his career debut Friday out of the bullpen.

Next Up

Army returns home for Game 2 of the weekend series for its home opener. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at Doubleday Field.
