Women's Lacrosse Posts 18-10 Victory at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT – Army West Point women's lacrosse (4-1, 0-0 Patriot League) secured an 18-10 victory at Fairfield (2-5, 0-0 MAAC) on Wednesday afternoon from Rafferty Stadium.
Army was led by its junior tandem of Brigid Duffy and Allison Reilly, as Duffy matched a career-high with seven goals in the contest while Reilly recorded a game-best nine points through three goals and six assists.
Lily Valentini recorded her second career hat trick with three goals in the effort as Geneva Milch Cesoni scored a pair.
Jackie Braceland made her first career start defensively, while Sarah Wood registered her first career goal on an eight-meter shot in the fourth quarter.
After Fairfield scored the opening goal in the opening minute, Army went to work to score five straight through the end of the quarter. Reilly notched the first for Army before assisting on two more in the opening stanza, including one to Valentini who had a pair in the first ten minutes.
Gabrielle Mirak and Geneva Milch Cesoni also added tallies in the opening 15. The Black Knights held the Stags to just the one shot in the first quarter despite Fairfield winning five draw controls in the frame.
The second quarter belonged to Brigid Duffy, who scored five times in the quarter to propel Army to an 11-4 advantage at the break including a free-position goal in the final second of the half. Reilly assisted on a pair of the Duffy tallies, bringing her halftime total to four.
Army outshot the Stags 23-8 in the first half while holding Fairfield to 5-for-12 in the clear through the first half hour.
Army continued to control the game in the second half as Duffy and Valentini notched the first two of the half before Reilly and Sarah Chernik tabbed goals which made it 15-4 in favor of the Black Knights.
Milch Cesoni and Duffy each added woman-up goals to close the frame, as Duffy matched her career-best with seven goals, and Army took a 17-6 lead into the final frame.
Anderson Strange entered in between the pipes for Army to begin the fourth after Lindsey Serafine made three saves while making the start, as Strange also tabbed three saves in the game.
Army's lone goal in the frame came from a free-position tally from Sarah Wood, marking her first career goal.
The Stags added the final three goals including two in the last minute, bringing the final score to 18-8.
The Black Knights move to 3-0 on the season versus MAAC opponents with the win after previously taking down both Marist and Siena.
Army will return home for its Patriot League opener on Saturday versus Boston University, with opening draw set for 12:00 p.m. from Michie Stadium.
