Golf Opens 45th Schenkel Invitational on Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Army West Point golf team opened the 45th Schenkel Invitational on Friday at the Forest Heights Country Club and currently sits in 13th on the team leaderboard.
The Black Knights finished day one with a team score of 302 (+14). Georgia Southern, who hosts the tournament, leads the field at 10-under after the first round. Florida's Luke Poulter is atop the individual leaderboard after a 5-under 67 on Friday.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Dragon Theam was Army's best golfer in round one with a 2-over 74 in the opening round with three birdies.
• John Heckel Jr. and Griffin Garvin both carded rounds of 75 on the first day.
• Garvin, who grew up in Statesboro, was 1-under on the front nine and finished with three birdies.
Army is back for Round 2 on Saturday morning and will tee off around 9:47 a.m. at Forest Heights.
