Women's Lacrosse Stymied by No. 15 Loyola Maryland, 16-6

BALTIMORE, MD – Army West Point women's lacrosse (5-2, 1-1 Patriot League) fell by a score of 16-6 at No. 15 Loyola Maryland (5-4, 2-0 Patriot League) on Saturday afternoon from Ridley Athletic Complex.
Army fell behind 7-1 in the first quarter and was unable to mount a run to get back into the game as the Greyhounds held a 15-4 draw control advantage through the first three quarters.
Lily Valentini led Army with two goals as Allison Reilly posted a goal and an assist.
Brigid Duffy scored a goal while logging three draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Duffy's first ground ball of the contest gave her 100 in her career, setting a new program record in the process.
Sarah Chernik paced the defense with three caused turnovers and three draw controls while Lindsey Serafine made eight saves in goal for the Black Knights.
Loyola got up 3-0 early as Army got on the board through Valentini at the 7:47 mark of the first. Lauren Spence was dominant in the cage for the Greyhounds early, making seven saves in the first quarter while allowing just the one goal.
Loyola used the defensive momentum to capitalize on offense, scoring four more times in the first to take a 7-1 lead into the second quarter.
Spence continued her strong play, totaling 10 saves at the half with just three goals allowed. Reilly and Valentini logged the goals in the second for Army, but the Greyhounds eventually led 12-3 at the break with a 13-3 draw advantage.
Army was shutout in the third but got three tallies throughout the final frame, as Duffy, Ryan Remaly and Geneva Milch Cesoni each found the back of the net.
Spence finished with 12 saves while Chase Boyle led the home side with four goals and 11 draw controls as Loyola collected an eventual 16-6 victory.
Army will return on Friday, Mar. 21 at Lehigh with opening draw set for 6 p.m.
