Hockey Tops AIC in Overtime in Brian Riley's Final Regular Season Home Game

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point hockey (14-17-2, 14-10-2 Atlantic Hockey America) defeated American International College (11-20-2, 9-15-1 Atlantic Hockey America) by a score of 3-2 in overtime in Brian Riley's final regular season home game at Tate Rink.
Army will be on the road as the 5-seed in the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals at fourth-seeded Niagara, but the Black Knights have the opportunity to host down the line pending the results of other series' in the tournament.
The game entailed a pregame ceremony honoring head coach Brian Riley for his 33 years of service at West Point which includes the last 21 as head coach. Riley was presented gifts from the Academy, Athletic Department and his former captains with a myriad of friends and family in attendance. His brother, Rob, dropped the ceremonial puck as Rob served as head coach for the 18 years prior to Brian taking over.
Vincent Salice scored the goal in overtime in what will go down as one of the most famous goals in the history of the program.
The Black Knights trailed in the third period but got goals from Jack Ivey and Joey Baez to take a 2-1 lead as the Yellow Jackets tied it late to force the overtime frame.
AIC took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission as Brett Rylance netted the game's opening goal on a rush between him and Casey McDonald.
Army dominated the second period which incldued three power plays but were unable to breakthrough past Chase Clark in the AIC goal. The Black Knights outshot AIC 19-3 in the frame but still trailed by a goal heading into the third period.
Jack Ivey got the equalizing goal for the Black Knights four minutes into the third, after Clark had saved six shots on goal from Ivey already in the game. Jon Bell and Barron Woodring logged the assists on the tally after a Woodring faceoff win.
Less than five minutes later, it was Joey Baez giving the Black Knights the lead as the senior collected a loose puck in front and slotted in from a tight angle to give Army its first lead of the game.
The Black Knights held the lead into the final minutes, but with an extra skater out there on an empty net situation, John Lundy tied the game for the Yellow Jackets with 1:09 remaining, sending Army into an overtime contest for the fourth time in the past five weekends.
The teams traded possessions before Easton Zueger poked a puck along the boards over to Vincent Salice, who made a move to get past the AIC defender and quickly fire home a perfect shot into the top right corner to beat Clark and give the Black Knights a memorable 3-2 win. The goal marked the sixth of the season for Salice as Army has now collected two points in all four overtime contests that it has played this season with two overtime wins and two shootout wins.
Evan Szary made 20 saves in net for the Black Knights to pick up the win.
