Coach Brian Woodbury, M.Ed., CSCS joined the Army West Point Track & Field staff in October of 2024.Â
In his first year with Army, Coach Woodbury led the throws group to four school records, 19 top-10 performances in West Point history, seven Patriot League Individual Champions and 17 All-Patriot League medals. The throwers played an important part of the Army West Point women winning their first Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship in 16 years, taking the top four places in the women's discus and scoring 60 total points in the throws.Â
Under Woodbury's guidance, Robby Manse won the Patriot League Men's Indoor Championship Outstanding Performer Award, the Patriot League Men's Outdoor Championship Outstanding Performer Award, as well as the Patriot League Men's Outdoor Championship Highest Point Scorer Award. Sophia Dykstra broke the Patriot League Championship meet record in the women's discus and Emily Fink broke the Patriot League Championship record in the women's shot put. Fink also won the 2025 Penn Relays Championship in the women's Hammer throw and improved her personal best from 65.81m to 71.12m, which ended the year as the second-best mark in the NCAA. The throws group had six athletes qualify for the NCAA East Regional Championship across all throwing events, and Woodbury went on to be nominated for the USTFCCCA Northeast Assistant Coach of the Year Award.Â
Prior to arriving at West Point, Coach Woodbury was brought on as the throws coach at his alma mater, the University of Maine, in October of 2020. Over 4 years, he guided the Black Bear throwers to 6 school records and 67 Top 10 performances in school history. The Black Bear throws program was a force in the America East Conference, winning 5 individual America East Championships with 26 All-America East medals, and broke the America East Championship record in the women’s hammer throw. Coach Woodbury’s throwers accounted for 40% of total team scoring with 362 conference championship points scored. The throws group was also able to win 5 individual New England Championships with 42 All-New England titles. In his last season at the University of Maine, he coached the first female thrower in school history to an NCAA Division I All-American title in the women’s hammer throw. It was the first Track & Field All-American for the University of Maine in over a decade.Â
Before taking over at the University of Maine, Coach Woodbury started SlingSHOT Throws out of Scarborough, Maine in 2017. His throwing club rewrote New England throwing history over 3 years by coaching 3 New Balance National Champions, an additional All-American, and coached state record holders in Maine (weight and hammer), New Hampshire (discus), Massachusetts (shot put and decathlon), and North Carolina (shot put). In addition, he coached many state champions around New England and coached different throwers to break the Indoor and Outdoor New England Championship records in the boy’s shot put.Â
As a student-athlete at the University of Maine, Coach Woodbury was a senior captain and earned All-America East titles in shot put and discus, and an All-New England title in the shot put.
