Curry's and Bell's Late Game Heroics Deliver Men's Basketball Overtime Win Over Manhattan

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men's basketball (3-6) returned to Christl Arena on Saturday and earned a gritty and hard-fought overtime win over the Manhattan University Jaspers (3-5), 81-78.
With the win, the Black Knights snapped the seven-game winning streak the Jaspers had held over them, gaining their first win over Manhattan since 1989.
Ryan Curry led the way for the Black Knights, scoring a season-high 26 points alongside adding team-highs with eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals. He finished the game shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the three-point line.
Jaxson Bell had another career performance for the Black Knights, finishing the game with a career-high 19 points while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 63.5 percent from the three-point line. He also added four rebounds and one steal.
Jorn Everson and Jackson Furman were the other Black Knights who finished in double-digits, with Everson finishing with 11 points and Furman adding 10 points off the bench.
How It Happened
Army opened the first half by setting the tone with steady perimeter shooting and balanced ball movement.
The Black Knights struck first with a pair of early layups from Jorn Everson and Tate Laczkowski, giving Army the first 4–0 cushion before Manhattan slowly chipped back with paint touches.
As the half settled in, Jacen Holloway and Jaxson Bell added layups that kept Army in front 10–4, but Manhattan answered at the line and trimmed the margin.
Army regained control at 11:03 when Ryan Curry drilled a three off an assist from Alex Engro, part of a hot start from beyond the arc.
Curry sparked the offense with three straight first-half threes, including one at 8:35 that pushed Army ahead 16–10.
The Jaspers responded with free throws and an interior finish, but the Black Knights countered with more perimeter fire.
Joshua Eli delivered a pair of early assists, including the dime that freed Curry for a rhythm three at 7:40 to extend the lead to 19–12. Moments later, Jackson Furman added a layup in traffic, keeping Army up seven.
Manhattan surged back with a pair of transition layups and a corner three, briefly cutting Army's edge to 21–19.
But the Black Knights answered again from deep, with Curry's fourth three of the half making it 24–19 at the 4:19 mark.
Army continued to lean on its shooters as Jaxson Bell and Tate Laczkowski hit back-to-back threes between 2:54 and 1:45, regaining a two-possession lead.
Bell remained aggressive, knocking down another three at 1:08 and later converting a driving layup to push Army ahead 33–30 entering the final minute.
Despite a late Manhattan basket, the Black Knights maintained momentum behind their perimeter efficiency, unselfish ball movement, and timely scoring from Curry and Bell, finishing the half in front 33–30.
Manhattan seized control early with a decisive scoring stretch, hitting a corner three at 19:01 and following it with a Fraser Roxburgh layup at 19:26.
That surge came shortly after a deep 3-pointer from Jaden Winston at 16:53 and a mid-range jumper at 16:28 that erased Army's narrow advantage.
Army battled to stay within striking distance, with Jaxson Bell knocking down back-to-back threes at 16:16 and 16:36, each assisted by Jackson Furman and Jacen Holloway, respectively. Those shots briefly lifted the Black Knights into a 39–38 edge before Manhattan responded.
Earlier in the half, Army strung together a small push behind perimeter shooting. Jackson Furman buried a three at 15:20 off a feed from Ryan Curry, regaining the lead at 42–40. Then Curry drilled a three-pointer of his own at 14:43, capitalizing on Holloway's playmaking. Holloway continued to impact the game, assisting Furman's corner three at 14:01 to make it 48–44.
Inside scoring also helped Army steady itself through the middle stretch. Jorn Everson finished a layup at 13:19 off a dish from Dayon Polk, following another Manhattan three that had cut into the margin.
Everson's layup at 10:36 kept Army in front 54–47 before a pair of Manhattan threes tightened the score.
The Black Knights' offense continued to find rhythm through attacking drives. Holloway scored on a layup at 11:54, and Everson had another strong finish as Army maintained a multi-possession lead near the midpoint of the half.
Army's advantage was first built on a sharp offense. Jackson Furman banked in a layup at 5:50, while Curry scored twice at the rim to keep Army ahead 60–57.
Curry's layups paired with a pair of free throws and a Manhattan three that trimmed the margin, but Army continued to answer.
Everson added a key three at 3:31, assisted by Curry, restoring a 63–59 lead moments after Manhattan had cut it to a one-possession game.
The Jaspers scored on a series of layups and free throws, erasing a seven-point gap. Still, Army remained composed.
The half ended with fireworks. Manhattan struck first with a three at 0:14, but Jaxson Bell countered instantly with a deep 3-pointer at 0:01, tying the game at 66–66, sending the game to overtime.
Army opened overtime with poise at the line, as Jaxson Bell knocked down four straight free throws at 4:40 to give the Black Knights an early lead of 67–66 and then 68–66, establishing the tone for a composed extra session.
Army extended that momentum when Tate Laczkowski finished through contact at 4:01 off a feed from Ryan Curry, pushing the lead to 70–66.
Manhattan responded with mid-range jumpers at 3:39 and 3:08, tightening the score to 70–68 and then 73–70.
But Army countered with a key swing possession at 3:19, when Curry buried a deep three off a Jacen Holloway assist to stretch the margin to 73–68. The Jaspers tied it moments later at 2:24 with a Terrance Jones three, knotting the game at 73–73.
Army answered at 1:30 with another strong drive from Laczkowski, again set up by Curry, to reclaim a 75–73 lead. Manhattan trimmed it to one at 1:11 with a free throw, but Holloway responded with a driving layup at 0:49 to make it 77–74.
Army then created separation at the stripe. Curry sank two free throws at 0:35 to push the lead to 78–74, though Manhattan answered with a pair of makes at 0:28 to pull within 79–76. Another Manhattan bucket at 0:12 made it 79–78, setting up the decisive closing moments.
Curry delivered them. The senior guard knocked down two pressure free throws at 0:09 to push the Black Knights ahead 80–78 and then added another pair seconds later to extend the advantage to 81–78, sealing Army's overtime victory with clutch execution.

- The Black Knights snapped the seven-game winning streak the Jaspers had held over them, gaining their first win over Manhattan since 1989. Army now holds a 45-29 program record lead over Manhattan.
