Men’s Basketball Falls on Road to Marist, 73-65

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — In a Hudson Valley clash of New York programs, Army West Point (1-5) fell to the Marist Red Foxes (3-2), 73-65, at McCann Arena.
Army struggled from the field, shooting 37.9% for the game, while Marist was paced by four players in double figures, led by Myles Parker, who scored a game-high 17 points. Ryan Curry led Army with 16 points.
Both teams opened cold, with Army hitting 3 of 9 and Marist 4 of 16 over the first nine minutes. The Black Knights managed to edge ahead 10-9 before senior Jackson Mayo connected on a three-pointer to make it 13-9 with just over 10 minutes left in the opening half.
Shooting woes persisted midway through the half, as Army went 5 of 19 overall (2 of 13 from three-point range) and Marist shot 8 of 22 (1 of 8 from deep). Ryan Curry's driving layup and follow-up three-pointer pulled Army back within two, 24-22, late in the half. Army finished the first half 7 of 29 from the field.
The Black Knights came out strong in the second half, scoring the first five points. Tate Laczkowski converted a layup, Jacen Holloway added a driving finish, and a free throw from Holloway pulled Army within 28-27. Marist responded when Jadin Collins-Roberts scored a layup, but Army tied it at 30 on a three from Kevin McCarthy, assisted by Ryan Curry.
Sophomore Jaxson Bell hit his first two three-pointers of the season during the half, keeping Army close. However, Parker continued his hot streak for Marist, scoring on free throws, a layup, and two three-pointers, helping the Red Foxes open a lead of 59-48 by the six-minute mark. Marist extended the advantage with a 12-0 run to make it 65-48 with 4:16 remaining, putting the game out of reach.
