WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's rugby team will kick off the 2024-25 season by hosting Indiana on Saturday, September 7th, at 12:00 PM.
This marks the first-ever meeting between the Black Knights and the Hoosiers as a varsity program, setting the stage for a highly anticipated, high octane match-up.
"We're very excited to open the regular season against Indiana," said team captain Elijah Manges. "It's been an awesome preseason, and we can't wait to get after it on Warrior Field this Saturday."
Indiana, like Army, will also be playing its first match of the season. The Hoosiers were scheduled to face Kentucky the previous weekend, but the game was canceled due to weather.
"The team has been working very hard, and we're pleased with our progress so far," said head coach Matt Sherman. "We're eager to test ourselves against a quality opponent and are focused on delivering our best performance at this early stage of the season."
The Black Knights will field a strong lineup, returning seven key starters from last season. Vice captain Nate Gould shared his excitement for the upcoming match, saying, "I'm super excited for this new squad to take the field for the first time. We've had a long preseason leading up to this, and I can't wait to see what we're capable of this year."
Fellow vice captain Joe Manning echoed those sentiments, adding, "It's been a long off-season of preparation, and the guys are all ready to go. It's exciting to finally put all our hard work into action against live competition."
Vice captain Andrew Bardak emphasized the team's focus: "We're all thrilled to be back on the field Saturday against a worthy opponent. This is a chance to gauge where we stand as a team while staying committed to improving as fast as possible. Our focus remains on performance and behaviors on the field."
Unfortunately, the match will not be streamed, but fans can follow live score updates on Army Men's Rugby's X page, @ArmyWP_MRugby.
